Andromeda on SCI FI

So, let me see if I have this straight: they cancel Farscape, announce that they want to move away from space-based science fiction series, then go and buy up Andromeda?

All I can say is that show must have a very VERY low pricetag attached to it.

I wonder if 3/4 of the money goes to Sorbo's salary.

And commission the BSG 2003 "miniseries" and upcoming series.

Goes without saying. If it were expensive, who'd want it? :p For that matter, who'd want it even if it's super-cheap? Answer: Sci-Fi. Hope it's saturday morning filler before long.

I wonder what the new Andromeda episodes are going to cost Sci-Fi? I mean, I could see them picking up a good show like SG-1 and continuing it, but Andromeda??? Puleeze! :p Let it die and get Sorbo and his ego off the screen.

Definitely cheaper. They did it with Sliders too. They do a cheap last season, get the re-run rights and push it into syndication numbers.

Now that is interesting. So, basically, Sci-Fi channel is out to be the cheapo channel, eh? Buy a dieing product and then syndicate it.

 I guess it's time to give up hope of there ever really being a Science Fiction channel. :(

No channel can be 100% good. They can't provide big-budget, always-popular products every hour.

I want to hate SCI FI for some of their previous shennangins, but they do offer a lot of good stuff. And they do go from strength to strength.

Andromeda=crap.

I was wondering how long that would take.

That's another thing I don't understand. It's already in syndication, although on a first-run basis. As for its status as a dying product, I haven't heard anything like that. There have been several personel changes, but I was under the impression that it still got decent ratings. IMO it has been on an upswing lately, adopting the arc and tangent concepts that made Farscape such a great show.

SCI FI did kill Sliders, that is for sure. I still don't know what the deal is with them and Andromeda, but here's to hoping they stay out of the creative process.

Oh come on, if you're talking about the US Sci-Fi Channel, they have days that are almost entirely crap, e.g. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (though this Sunday looks like a bit of an exception). Also, it's beginning to look like The Kevin Sorbo Network, with Hercules on 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, plus Andromeda.

KoshN, don't watch it then. That one was solved simply!

I mean who watches a channel all day anyway? Personally, I pick and choose the programmes I want from various channels.

SCI FI did kill Sliders, that is for sure. I still don't know what the deal is with them and Andromeda, but here's to hoping they stay out of the creative process.

How did they kill Sliders? It was like Outer Limits, E:FC and now Andromeda -- all they do is take it on for its final year.

The trouble is, Antony, with all the crap they show, I actually have missed things I have wanted to check out. Since I almost never watch the channel anymore, I simply don't see their ads. Now that I have a Showtime package, I fear I'll miss out on just about everything unless I happen to read about somewhere like here.

IIRC, both John Rhys-Davies and Jerry O'Connell left the show over creative difficulties, thus leaving Rembrandt as the only original cast member with an ersatz Quinn, the luscious Kari Wuhrer and that chick who couldn't keep her nose out of the medicine cabinet on that commercial. Apart from giving post-B5 cast members work, it unravelled into a show with no direction or plot.

But hey, Roger Daltrey was the high point of the show, wasn't he?
;)

hypatia, www.digiguide.com

ElScorcho, JRD did indeed leave over creative differences -- but about 2 and a half years before it even went near sci-fi!

Sabrina Lloyd left because she hated Kari Wuhrer.

Season five I liked, personally. I felt the writing was much better, and I did like Mallory and Diana.

I see season five as its best.

KoshN, don't watch it then. That one was solved simply!

I don't. I was just being thorough, listing the entire week.

I mean who watches a channel all day anyway?

Nobody, hopefully, but I used to watch a great deal more of it than I'd ever be tempted to watch now. It went from "a favorite channel" that I used to visit first when turning on the TV, to one where I...:

<ul type="square">[*] Surfed past as quickly as possible.
[*] Picked and chose the rare diamonds from among the crap.
[*] Ended up deprogramming it from my DVD recorder and VCR channel lineups (before Comcast deleted it from my cable tier).
[/list]
...in the span of a couple years.

Personally, I pick and choose the programmes I want from various channels.

Same here. I copy Zap2It to an Excel spreadsheet, cut out the stuff I can't stand or in which I have no interest (Hey, it saves LaserJet toner. :) ), and print out 1 page/day, a week in advance. It helps me plan my recording.

ps. I only check 6PM to Midnight.

3:00 PM MOVIE ROBIN COOK'S INVASION - PT 1 **
5:00 PM MOVIE ROBIN COOK'S INVASION - PT 2 *

I've seen this mini series before and I actually kind of liked it. I mean you can't go wrong with Rebecca Gayheart (Earth 2) and Luke Perry (Jeremiah). :p

I have to admit, I dont watch the channel near as much as I use to either. Without Farscape on at a decent time or B5 I dont tune in. I've only caught a few episodes of Andromeda and I may sometime just watch to see what it's all about. Perhaps by purchasing it and the rights, doesn't Sci Fi then get all the residuals later on? Sounds like they are buying franchises so they can fund other projects..like those crappy 2 million dollar budget pictures they like to call Sci Fi Originals. :p

I loved Sliders when it premiered and thought it was a great premise for some really great story lines. I kind of lost interest when they started with the Cro-Mag storyline. I also remember watching an episode where you could tell it was filmed on the Universal Studios lot in California. I watched it was like, "Hey, I've been there and ridden on that ride." One article years ago had said that an episode was centered around a truck. The studio purchased it and wanted to know how they could write a story revolving around the truck exploding.

Anyway..what the hell do I know about producing television?

Sky One has gone a similar route. It's daily line up is pretty much 15 episodes of the Simpsons, Something Uncovered or Sex In Something. The latter two having common men and women going on about their sex in some place blah blah.

But Sky One has worked its way back into my weekly viewings with Cold Case.

I probably have a quite high opinion of SCI FI because we get to pick and choose the best bits. :D

As to Robin Cook's Invasion... I'm plain scared.

Antony, don't you have to know about a program in advance to use this service? My point is, a program will be gone before I know it was even aired sometimes.

But Dukhat was the Cro-Mag "Kolitar." (just kidding)
