Our rather attractive French/German teacher once turned up at a non-uniform (for the kids) day in St.Trinians-style school uniform - short skirt, stockings (we think!), hair in pigtails ... That was about fourteen years ago now, but the images are still burned into my mind!

Back on topic: I like the idea of a promotional T-shirt, but I'd only wear it to sf-related events or as an undershirt. I also like the idea of a tie, but as long as it's subtle - the Rangers' badge as a small (4 or 5 cm) piece at the bottom of the tie, or small, repeating B5 shields, that sort of thing.

Ted Turner doesn't own AOL-Time Warner. He's just in charge of a piece of it--the piece that runs cable networks like CNN and TNT.

Folks, Last Night my wife and I saw an ad for LofTR on the Discovery Channel (during the Junkyard MegaWars event)!

So I guess that this shows Sci-Fi is commited, putting ads on other networks besides their own!!

I suggest caution if they are going to run this thing at Fellowship of the Ring.

I hope they are cutting another trailer just for this purpose - one that wil tone down the action a bit and emphasize the characters, drama, and mythos of B5.

This is absolutely necessary!

After all, Lord of the Rings is not about blowing stuff up. A trailer full of gunfire and explosions might turn the Tolkien crowd right off.

I liked a lot of what I saw in the first trailer. It was somber. And though it showed some action, it was set to the music of Christopher Franke's requiem. And G'Kar's quote about the city... BILLIONS of years old - that MUST be in it, IMHO.

I know that the first trailer was put together before any effects were done, which is why it was so character-focused, but I think that any new trailer should be more subdued than the second trailer was and put the focus back on the story.

So I hope SciFi is listening. Tread lightly fellas. This promotion requires a delicate touch. Do NOT dumb it down!

Most of the people going to see Lord of the Rings will not be die-hard Tolkien fans. This movie will be the next Big Blockbuster, drawing in all sorts of folks. I'm sure plenty of the folks that saw the Harry Potter movie didn't read the books.

Ideally, the trailer will show character stuff and action, but there's only so much you can do in 30 seconds.

I don't care either way. This would be a huge thing for the B5 franchise, a step in getting B5 recognised as something beyond a quirky underground sci-fi nerd thing.

The Tolkein trailer is going to be interesting, as we all know that the word "Rangers" carries deep connotations in that mythos as well.

I think Dulann's speech from the first trailer would make a great, great, great frame for the Tolkein trailer - "we are born in starlight," etc., etc. It's a speech absolutely PACKED with mythos.

Kinda like a blending of the two trailers we have currently.

I'm not really plugged into the moderated group, but I do think the content of the cinematic trailer is a very important issue and needs to be tailored to fit the venue.

Maybe it can be brought up at the chats, too.

Can you describe a bit about the ad you saw? How long was it? What was it's content? What did it say about watching Rangers?
 
Does anyone here know whether the B5LR trailer is scheduled to run at UK showings of LOTR, or is limited to US cinemas?

Doesn't make any difference as I am a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy and would be going anyway, but it is always nice to know these things.

I don't know but I would very much doubt it, especially if no British TV channel has picked the movie up yet.

It wouldn't make much sense for the US SciFi to promote their telemovie in other countries.

I didn't mean it that way. I just meant that it could be brought up since it is a SciFi chat venue, moderated by SciFi.com. With any luck, someone important might hear about it.
