Tracy Scoggins

Tracy Scoggins was in Galveston, Texas on November 22 to attend a dedication ceremony in honor of her mother's work in teaching tennis to the youth of Galveston.

The City named the tennis courts at a local park the "Scoggins Stiglich Tennis Courts." Stiglich being the name of another volunteer tennis coach who recently died. So, Tracy's mom got top billing.

A local news website has pictures of the dedication and Tracys does apepars in 5 of the pictures. Hint: she's the best looking woman in the pictures.

If interested, the photos can be located at www.guidrynews.com, go to the link at the bottom for additional stories and look for November 22.

Why in God's name would they put that picture of that random old guy standing in front of a tree before pictures of Tracy?

Maybe the "random old guy" was the brother of the other person the tennis center was being named for?

I'm annoyed that their slide show format doesn't include captions to explain who the people in each photo were. In any case, this wasn't an article about Acress Tracy Scoggins (notice her name isn't even mentioned in the article), it was an article about Galveston honoring two of its own, and while she seems to have said a few words, she wasn't the focus of the event and therefore not of the coverage.

I know. ;)

That was selfish-recoil talking there.

You mean there's an unselfish-recoil? Sorta like Smeagol and Gollum? :)

I sorta figured, but not everyone is as familiar with selfish-recoil as others, and might a) think you were being serious b) think you had a point. :D

I really am ticked off that the stupid paper included all those pictures - and a credit for the photographer - but never identified any of the people in them, inluding Tracy's mom - who was only the main (living) subject of the article. You know that if they'd run several pictures in the print edition that they all would have been captioned. If they couldn't figure out how to caption a slide shoiw they should have had one picture or Mrs. Scoggins and whoever was there to accept for the other fellow and identified everyone in the shot.

Joe

Most of the people there already knew each other and since this is a small city (55,000+), many of the readers know the people in the pictures. Usually, the paper's local section is only 6 or 8 pages - most of the pictures would not have been published even if it was twice the pages.

That's why the paper/website did not identify the mayor, the city manager, the police chief, city council members, city department heads, local attorneys, or local athletic coaches - we know who they are.

The "brother" is Charlie Stiglich - he's the one who was smiling while holding a small plaque.
