The hair

This is something that I'm sure has never been discussed here. Nevertheless, hair is a vital part of the success of any telivision show.
So how does B5lr hair compare to that of the previous shows?
In my opinion, the show just does not have enough hair. I mean, five out of the nine main characters are totally bald!
It's not surprising, though. Since the show focuses on the Minbari, A race notably devoid of hair.

Um... I really don't care all that much about hair. After watching B5, I realised that it's perfectly OK for a person - especially if an alien - to not have hair.

The hair? Okay, yes, the hair is important, but to me, the most important thing is the clothing.

What I most prefer are jackets made out of leather. *grins* or long jackets in general...which, do the Rangers even have dusters anymore??

I wonder if LondosHair will post in this thread.

Anyhow, hair isn't really a vital thing to the show, but yet you see that it does play some part to note. The Centauri have their social status defined by hair, Minbari don't normally have hair, but that is one characteristic that Delenn takes on when she becomes part human, and it seems as if Claudia has had more hairstyles on the show than you can count.

I am curious to see how many different hairstyles Myriam will use!

That's funny, 'cause to me, it's the lack of clothing that is important.

Heres the statistics:

B5 season 1, 43% bald.

B5 season 2, 33% bald

B5 season 3, 23% bald

B5 season 4, 30% bald

B5 season 5, 30% bald

Crusade, 17% bald

Legend of the Rangers, 55% bald.

Numbers are approximate.

------------------

I cant tell you what an honor it is to be a part of the baldest incarnation of B5 to date.

And I wouldnt worry about the lack of hair in the cast. Dylan and Warren's locks do the work of 10 healthy heads of hair.

They almost make up for Dean's do.....almost.

Bald races:
Minbari, Vorlon, Shadow, Narn, Drakh, Pak'Ma'Ra, Vree, Streib, Gaim, Llort, Grome, Abbai, Thirdspace aliens, Drazi, Yolu...

So many bald races.

------------------

I personally find that it is not the amount of hair on the actors but the quality of the hair cut/bone carving/scale pattern/spot pattern. The poor quality of this in 'the Gatherin' is one of the biggest flaws in the pilot and almost caused B5 not to ever get on the air at all.

Indeed... and then we look at JMS:

Goddamn, JMS is one ugly sonuvabich.

Lucky for him he has talent to get by on and doesn't need to rely on his looks.

Miriam Sirois' beautiful fire mane is all the hair anyone could want. When you have something like that, everything else just looks Minbarish.

LOL! Do you notice that baldness does seem to be a way to emphasize the "alien" races sometimes? Personally, I admit that some of the aliens don't look very alien to me, until I see those spots or bone crests on top of that head.

Hmm, I am more shallow that I thought I was!

Well, he doesn't look as haggard as he did during B5's first run... he had some health problems back then, due to stress mostly... plus he's lost a lot of weight, if that is indeed a recent pic. I just went & searched on images.google.com for "JMS"... thank God for Google!

Oh and to RW, this post may have slipped past me a few days ago, but you know if it deals with HAIR that I'll be THERE!

God that sounded gay... heh

I keep looking at the pic of Londo and then at the pic of JMS and...

... he's almost got a kind of Centauri thing goin with his hair... if he could just comb it OUT a little more

These numbers seem off to me. Granted Delenn was bald S1 and not the rest, so S1 could be higher, but Garibaldi had less and less hair as the series progressed. Would that not tip the scales in the direction of more baldness? I cant believe I am actually commenting on this. Heh.

I'm surprised that S5 has such a high baldness rate. Think of all the telepaths!!

Then again, there were also more Narns, and a few female Centauri around, so I guess that evens it out.

When I saw the title "the hair", I *did* think it was going to be about LondosHair (& also thought that it would get bumped to Off-Topic Lounge).

As for JMS, he does seem to be looking better these days. He also jokes around more at the moderated site than he used to. He doesn't seem as angry now. I'm glad, because I think the problems with Crusade just about wore him out.

Uhhh, guys? Check the background on that pic. That's the B5 set, so the photo can't be less than 2 and a half years old.
