What is carrion? I assume it has something to do with dead things. Is it an aparitif for a corpse like a garnish?

According to Funk & Wagnalls Standard Desk Dictionary:

n. Dead and putrefying flesh --adj. 1. Feeding on carrion. 2. Like or pertaining to carrion; putrefying.

I guess those Pak'ma'ra preferred there uncooked meat to be "aged". Yummy.
