Chapter 5 A New Friend
“I returned to the training facilities. Again, I met with you and the rest of our team. Sect Turvall was there with another Minbari about my age.”
“Yes, I remember that.”
“Welcome back trainees. I would like to introduce to you a new member to your team. His name is Furrell. He is from the Warrior Caste.”
Tannia and Latiya bowed to Furrell, who bowed back. Edward and Chantal merely smiled. Sect Turvall motioned Furrell to their group. He stood next to Tannia.
“Today we will be taking one of the White Stars to the Coriana System. There, you will take the fighters out to scan for ships we have placed out there. Do not make contact with the ships. The one, who scans the most ships, will have top grade and will be assigned to a White Star crew. Any questions?”
There was silence.
“Good. Get ready to go.” Sect Turvall said.
Latiya ran to meet up with Chantal, who looked very excited.
“I know I’m going to get top grade on this one! I know I am!”
“Yeah, right, Chantal. It will probably be me.”
Latiya and Chantal turned to see Edward. Edward was a tall man about twenty-one years of age with pale blonde hair and pale blue eyes. He was a rather snobbish man.
“Whatever you say, Eddy.” Chantal said sarcastically while rolling her eyes.
“Yes, it is whatever I say; furthermore, I would prefer to be called Edward and not Eddy,” he said.
Latiya lowered her pace and slowly drifted away from the squabble. She felt a light touch on her shoulder. She turned to her left and saw Furrell. She noticed that he had beautiful Hunter green eyes.
“Hello, Furrell.” Latiya said, feeling nervous.
“Hello, uh…”
“Latiya.”
“Latiya,” Furrell confirmed. “How old are you, Latiya?”
“Sixteen. W-what about you?”
“Seventeen.”
“Hello, Furrell. I am Tannia from the Worker Caste.”
They arrived at the docking bay. Sect Turvall led the team to the command deck. The beauty of the ship fascinated Latiya.
“All of you may walk around the ship since I have nothing for you to do right now.”
Latiya smiled and turned to leave. Right by her side was Furrell and Tannia. Latiya had no special like for Tannia. Tannia was an annoying girl who tried to get everything she wanted. The Humans would call her a spoiled brat.
“So, Furrell, what is your family like?” Tannia asked him, lying her head on his right shoulder.
Latiya rolled her eyes, something she had picked up from Chantal. Tannia saw this and frowned.
“Oh stop being as childish as the Humans.”
“I am not being childish. I was simply-“
“She was simply showing her annoyance. And, I must agree with her. Please, get off me.” Furrell said, sounding annoyed.
“I-I-“ Tannia stammered.
Latiya and Furrell walked off together. Latiya wore a big smile on her face as she and Furrell walked down a wide corridor. There was an awkward silence. Latiya felt very strange. She felt shy and another feeling she had never felt.
“So, what caste are you from?” Furrell asked.
“Religious.” Latiya said quietly.
“Somebody told me you live with the Entil’zha and President Sheridan.”
“Yes. Who told you?”
“Someone.”
“Oh.” Latiya said.
“Why are you so nervous?” Furrell asked.
Latiya looked down at the floor and did not answer. Furrell put a hand on her shoulder and she began to get the strange feelings again.
“Latiya, you do not need to feel nervous around me.”
Latiya looked into his eyes and she began to blush furiously. They stopped walking and Furrell looked at her.
“You are shy. I can see that now,” he said, not sounding accusatory.
“Yes, I am…extremely shy.”
Furrell smiled like he was laughing. “Well, we can become friends and then toy won’t be so shy.”
“Latiya! There you are! I’ve been looking all over for you.”
Latiya turned to face Chantal.
“I can’t believe I missed that! He was really falling!” Chantal laughed.
“Falling?” Latiya asked, sounding confused.
“He was falling in love with you! He loves you, Latiya!”
“I don’t think so.” Latiya said, sounding unsure.
“Latiya, I can tell. I can tell by the way he looks at you and by the way he acts around you.”
“Really?” Latiya asked hopefully.
“Yep.”
Latiya could feel her heart beating fast and she felt happy. He had the same feelings for her as she did for him! She closed her eyes and sighed happily.
“You like him!”
“I do not.” Latiya said stubbornly.
“Yes, you do!”
“I do not!”
“Yes.”
