NOVELS: (Dell Books #7 and #9, and the three Del Rey Trilogies are considered canon. I would say that the short stories are also canon, except possibly "Space, Time, and the Incurable Romantic" which is more of a flight of fancy written to satisfy Ivanova/Marcus "shippers.")

People have asked for this info. so many times in so many forums, ....I just wanted to have it all in one place.

I should have thanked you for this long ago. I refer to it all the time!

 I just tired of having to repeat myself in little bits and pieces here and there, and decided to be more comprehensive.

Check out the new thread with the authorised chronological order of all the B5 canon, it covers the novels, comics and short stories.

There are a lot of old threads on the subject of B5 books. This one seems the latest one posted in, so I'll resurrect it.

Up till now I had never read any of the first Babylon 5 novels. Sure, I have read The Psi Corp Trilogy, The Legions of Fire (the Centauri Trilogy) and The Passing of the Techno-Mages, as well as The Shadow Within by Jeanne Cavelos and To Dream in the City of Sorrows by Kathryn M. Drennan (my favourite of them). But I had not bothered with the other ones as a friend told me it was not worth the trouble. But it always bothered me a bit that there was Babylon 5 material out there that I had not read.

So when I stumbled upon one of them this spring I gave it a shot. It was ... Babylon 5 Book #5 The Touch of Your Shadow, the Whisper of Your Name. (1997) By Neal Barret Jr.

And I am sad to say the rumors are true. It was not good. It takes place in early 2260, before the Season 3 episode A Day in the Strife and follow how Sheridan and Co try to handle the situation when a strange cosmic green shadow ... "the Worm" is slowly approaching Babylon 5 giving everyone xenophobic nightmares that get worse ... and worse ... And there is a telepath ... and Kosh ... and an assortment of strange religious groups like Fermi's Angels that go bananas.

There are a few instances when the characters talk with the "right" voice, and a few instances when the author manages to bring a sense of wonder to the everyday activities on B5, like an alien film festival. But mostly it misses the mark completely. And in the end even the main worm-storyline is something that the main characters cant impact in any way, and the telepath-Kosh story line ends the same ... in nothing. Very strange and underwhelming.

Anyone else here that has read it?

Anyone else here that has read it?

I read it back when I was a teenager and the book had just come out. I think I enjoyed it at the time, finishing it in two sittings, but I'm not sure I would enjoy it now. I guess it would make a better Star Trek novel than a Babylon 5 novel.

I do remember thinking Clark's Law was good. The rest I found not necessarily bad, but just a tad boring – though it might be worth giving Voices, Accusations or Betrayals a try. Anything except for Personal Agendas. I have not read that. I have no plans to read it. Its chapters are two pages long and the plot is ridiculous by all accounts from reviews I have read.
