    Favorite recurring character: Season 3

Zathras was amusing in small doses, and even better in JMS's use of his voice, but Bester was absolutely superb in this season. No contest.

    He's BAAAAaaaaaccckkk!

Re: He\'s BAAAAaaaaaccckkk! Good to see you back, Joe. You make some good points, but I find the fact that three posters have independently discovered the same story about the recasting (even if one of them is CE! :D) to be most disturbing. Enough to remind WB of our presence, but certainly...

My Centauri Trilogy Review *Slight Spoilers*

I preferred the Technomage series and least preferred the Telepath series, but can see why someone else would see it the other way around. For me the most interesting thing in the Centauri Trilogy is that it explains why Londo had the intro in The Gathering - because B5 is the story of B5 as...

Crusade DVDs in IGN DVD roundup. Harsh words?

Frankly, other than the music (which I started out hating and grew to love) the most irritating thing about Crusade was that it didn't seem to know what it was. Given the jerking around of the concept by TNT, that is no surprise! The only eps that really "clanged" for me were Visitors from...

Crusade DVDs in IGN DVD roundup. Harsh words?

Yeah, how DO you " completely [kill one in ten]?"

Sleeping in the light - Did you cry?

Nope, I did not even tear up. However, I noted that my DVDs share the same defect as my tapes and the original broadcast did - at certain points, they got very blurry indeed. In fact, the Sheridan farewell to Delenn was so blurred in the original showing that I haven't even tried to watch it...

    B5 MASTERMIND

The questions are quite the mix of the trivially easy to the absurdly hard, just as they should be. I also got only 16, but at least the ones I missed were the ones I would, have guessed I would miss (specific dates and numbers, plus Jinxo's real name!)

Need help on B5 station size

Ironically, it didn't even seem to slow them down. The "statute mile" is the standard distance definition for "mile" that would be used by the Standard TV Writers Association, should such an organization exist.

    commentary for The Gathering

Yep. It is a medical device, an interdimensional and intertemporal trasport component, a decoration, a weapon, an engine part, and more! Get yours today.

    commentary for The Gathering

It is the fragment of Garibaldi's Starfury that G'Kar finds in WHtMG. It is also the "flux capaciter" in the Back to the Future movies, and appears in many episodes of the various Star Trek series.

    The Plague of TNT

    That... would be telling.

    The Plague of TNT

Agreed. In fact, my impression of JMS's remarks was that the "hook" referred to was "showing the viewers" what was happening on Earth (and hence the whole "War Zone" episode) instead of "telling the viewers." YMMV, of course.

    commentary for The Gathering

    SPOILER WARNING! * * * * * * * * * It is the "overthruster" from Buckaroo Banzai. * * * * * * * * Not sure what this spoils, just being cautious.

    commentary for The Gathering

There is a thread about this over at JMSNews that reveals, I think, the answer. Once you know what the "device" is it is pretty easy to find out a lot more on a google search. I could tell you here but why spoil the fun?

    The long waiting

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I just preferred Tolkien's vision of TLotR to Jackson's. Jackson got the movies to sell, for sure, but for Tolkien fans there were laugh-out-loud bad scenes in them. Jackson does not understand subtle and TMoS needs subtlety, not sledgehammers...

    The long waiting

Jackson would be a terrible choice, as he has already deomnstrated that he considers himself a better storyteller than Tolkien, which disasterous results (all the laugh-out-loud bad moments of TLotR were when Jackson decided he had the "better storytelling vision"). How could he not consider...

    No mention of technomages

Agreed, and this is surely one of the most serious temptations to authors writing novels after the fact. They get wrapped up in their charactors and their egos become the charactor's egos, so whenever their charactors encounter the canon they just HAVE to influence it. On the other hand...

    TV Guide's 25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends

Re: TV Guide\'s 25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends I always meant to make that point in one of these discussions, and now you have done it for me. Yep, Sheridan's treatment of lyta shows the flaw in the idea that "he takes care of his own." It was disgraceful (as a deliberate plot point) and shows...

    The long waiting

Just to pick a nit, the name is Weta (techically, Wetadigital LTD), not WETA (a mistake I make all the time myself as I am a member of WETA, a DC public radio station). The FX house is named after an insect common in New Zealand. It isn't an abbreviation like ILM.

    No mention of technomages

    * Mild Technomage Spoiler * * * * * * * * Ditto for the reason why Sheridan suddenly figured out the Shadow strategy just before Walkabout. The tendency to overplay Galen at Sheridan's expense was the only real flaw in the Technomage series, IMO. * * * * * * * *
