    Update from JMS

Quite frankly, your reasons for eliminating the other channels strike me as rather odd. Eliminating the Universal channels, given that one of them has been the TV home of B5 for a couple of years and has aired one original B5 project, seems pretty unjustified. Eliminating the premium channels...

    Update from JMS

Flattery will get you nowhere... ;) There's a difference between dreaming and speculating, and there's a lot of both going on. I, for one, do not wish to either inflate people's hopes and dreams or shatter them. I try to post information and, when pressed, realistic speculations based on...

    Update from JMS

I'm a bit hesitant about listing specific cable outlets, since I don't have access to the data about their programs and audiences, and I'm not inclined to spend the time to do the research to try to piece it together. But, depending on the nature of the project, some of these might work: (TNT...

    Update from JMS

At the very earliest stages, this is certainly true, yes. But it's going to have to end up as one or the other, well before distribution takes place. (And before anyone tries to "catch" me on this -- if it's produced as a feature film, it is, of course, likely to make it to TV eventually, but...

    Update from JMS

Very unlikely. The unions are different, the contracts are different, the production techniques are different. If you produce a feature film and go right to TV, you've wasted a whole lot of money. If you produce a TV movie and want to distribute it like a feature film, you have all kinds of...

    Update from JMS

Er, no. That parent company would be Time Warner. A rather large company, you might say, with annual revenues in the billions of dollars, and thus unlikely to even notice at any high level such a small revenue stream as the DVD sales for a single TV series. Why would you say that? It looked to...

    Audio drama, anyone?

    Update from JMS

I think you're missing the important distinction between "core" and "niche"...

    New Doctor Who!

I do believe the Master has returned from being totally, finally, completely dead even more times than Davros... :) Messy, indeed. As much as I enjoy (many of) the novels, I don't think those story threads would translate particularly well to the TV screen. They're a bit too convoluted to be...

    New Doctor Who!

According to Shaun Lyon at Outpost Gallifrey: Shaun has generally been right about these things in the past...

    New TV season

That's exactly it. Until the last few years, the baseball playoffs were always split between multiple networks, so there wasn't as much need to push shows back. Fox doesn't want to start showing something for two or three weeks then have it vanish for the next three weeks, since they figure it...

    New TV season

"Dabbling" is about right, and the other networks occasionally do this as well. Sometimes it's with a show that they feel needs a bit of time to build an audience, other times it's with a show that they're not quite sure about and want to give a test run. But the feeling seems to be that, aside...

    New TV season

Viewership is generally way down over the summer. So the networks aren't generally inclined to air their best new material during the summer, since it'd make them less money. The networks tend to start their fall seasons all at the same time because that's when Nielsen's "season" for ratings...

    Interesting Contrast

Ah. Being familiar with MS products, I always assumed that the ODBC Text driver could never possibly work, so I never bothered to attempt to use it... :p

Er... Yeah, like I said... :p (Edit buttons are wonderful things...)

    Interesting Contrast

Different people have different concepts of what constitutes "honor". The Minbari just seem to share most of Sinclair's concepts, by an amazing coincidence. :D

    Question...

I suppose that when we all manage to win the lottery, we'll find out... :p Actually, I was thinking that if we got together enough money to buy some of their money-losing businesses (AOL, perhaps? ;)) and asked for B5 as a throw-in... :)

    Question...

Yep. I was misremembering something he had said a long time ago about having approval rights over merchandising, which may or may not even still apply now that the series has concluded.
  19. M

    Question...

Keep in mind, though, that JMS does not own the rights to B5. AOL Time Warner owns the rights; JMS merely has some unknown form of veto/approval over some of what they can do. That's something that would be less likely to pass to his estate.

    Season 5

I think part of the problem is that many people convinced themselves it was going to be bad before seeing it. If you look back at message archives from around that time, you can see a whole lot of negativity about it right up front. After all, JMS had squeezed the arc into the fourth season...
