The Babylon 5 Preservation Project

I invested at the beginning, but honestly I've had a LOT of trouble keeping up with the updates and I have no clue what he is going to want for the books now. I gave a lot, but I think it only guaranteed the first one or two books when it was going to be one or two. Now that it has ballooned who knows... Seriously does anyone know? 🤪

Great Scott Batman!
That sounds like something I'd love to read. But it sounds like it will be expensive, both the books in them selves and the shipping.

That does concern me, if it's anything like the B5 script books, the shipping ended up more expensive than the books themselves by the time the B5Books store closed down.

Wow, that sounds truly awful. Hope he has a good editor!

I suppose one way to look at it is one book per season. Honestly, if it had been pitched as one book per season at the beginning, I'd have been all for it as it does make sense to me to approach it that way. I am a bit miffed though that we need to fork out more money now to get all the books.

Having written books myself, I've got a sense for how long these are going to be. The longest book that I've written so far was 104,000 words and that was a little over 300 pages when published - of course, it depends on typesetting as well - and based on the three-quarters of a million words that has been quoted as the overall length, these will average about 150,000 words per book. Certainly not the longest books ever, but typically books that I've read all the way through that have been longer than that have been novels. There is a danger that non-fiction/reference books that long can become too dense to enjoyably read but if his writing is good, or great even, then it will support the word count. So basically, we need to wait and see.

Though it remains to be seen what will come out first, this project or The Winds of Winter!

...
Yes, the script books gave me a nasty burn as the Swedish customs added almost a third of the price in custom fees.

One book per season sounds like a good way to do it and sounds a lot better than it does at the moment, I agree.

I'm right there with you. Intrigued, yes, but also puzzled and somewhat annoyed.

Am rusty, but thought perhaps the first books to be released (possibly 2?) might cover the TV series, and later books would cover Films, Crusade, etc. And that the TV series books might be released before the others, rather than all-at-once. But that was before materials/shipping prices went $?!$?!. The email for the most recent Briefing (#186) discusses some of this.
