Ah, how too true!
This is, unfortunately, the result of pack mentality, i.e when you get a large group of people together as an operating unit. Just as a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, so a mob is only as smart as the one who can shout loudest, and this is frequently one who either can not, or does not, think beyond his or her immediate requirements, like a new car or the latest media equipment. We humans are generally so lazy: we find it easier to go with the flow than try and fight against the tide. So the majority of those who did have brains simply kept quiet and went with the group consensus, and those who did protest were drowned out.
I noe apologise to all those accountants out there who do think of more things than just profit!
