To me this is mixed news.

Pop ups are frustrating and largely ineffective.

It's more Rangers exposure.

I am mildly amused as to why that is in a spoiler box but I am encouraged about the ad. I agree with the Doc ... popups suck for the most part.

I know ... spoilers are a mystery for the most part around here. Some people use them appropriately, others don't have a clue and others spoiler everything "just in case". Those are just some examples since I don't claim to understand the whole thing.

I suppose it is better to be safe than sorry but the name of the enemy has been revealed in many of the promos that have been airing lately. That is why I was mildly amused.

I think the pop-up is on certain news items. I ran into it quite a few times. It's not a "Pop-up" like the X-12 ad; it's a little full-screen Java animation.

It's very low quality - it's obviously intended to load quickly and surprise. However, low quality, cheese factor or not, it DOES grab your attention, and it is on StarWars.COM.

And let's be honest, no matter what Harlan Ellison may say about Star Wars, that's a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE win for us. The only way we could get much better ad placement is on government web pages or porn sites.

I checked it out and saw something flash (in Flash) across the page (the Liandra flying by with a Hand firing at it and then the Hand ship leaves via a jumpgate) but I have a really hard time getting it to show up more than once.

Also, I found two flash files on their B5LR trailer page that were kind of fun to play. Not sure if anyone else has seen these and no guarentees how it will look since it is supposed to be imbedded into a web page:

Lyta,

Thanks for the links! They actually played pretty well, especially the crew loading (a little bitmapped, but not bad). I gotta give it to SciFi, they're doing a better (more innovative at least) job of promoting B5LR than I thought they would.

Perhaps they finally have realized the degree of importance Internet has in the success of Babylon 5.

Living a few thousand miles outside their coverage, I can just hope that the advertising works... and I lend my general support to all matters babylonian.

I haven't seen that pop-up yet, but I did see a cool ad over at IMDB. Check it out!

Here are some screen shots (62-89k in size) that I took of some of these Flash ads. They are kinda fun to watch so it is too bad they are so hard to get them to appear when you want them.

IGN #1 (Hand ship, Liandra and jumpgate)
IGN #2 (Hand ship firing at Liandra)
IGN #3 (same as #2 but not cut off)
Star Wars #1 (Hand ship with Liandra escaping via jumpgate)
Star Wars #2 (same as #1 but not cut off)

[Edit Note: I was wrong that these ads were different. It was my insanely high resolution at work that messed up the ads. Hopefully the extra screen shots help.

I have to agree with Channe. I saw the whole ad the other day at IGN website and that's what I thought, too.

I guess the problem was that it just didn't look good or very high-quality. Plus there was no way to get rid of it, i.e. it would have been annoying if I hadn't been interested in it.

On the good side... you can't escape it if you happen to visit the sites in the right moment, it's pretty much an attention-grabber.

I enjoyed playing the two games.

I had not realised that the city was on Minbar. I thought that it was the Hand's city.

Thank you everyone.

But mildly entertaining to watch.

Plus, the sound effects cracked me up as well. Well, maybe to a fan it is fun but probably annoying to the casual observer?
