jeremey kyle`s chav friends

DaRkEnEdStAr

Regular
I dont watch this show most of the time ,
but having glimosed into the world that is kyle , there were some freaks on the show .. All chavs of course .. from serial cheaters to mothers who beat their daughters . The uk has produced a new class of people the "inbred chav " they will be into drugs , unprotected sex , and a manner of social taboos shall we say (like sleeping with a family member , not belonging to a specific sexuality or something)

I find the phrase 'chav' (roughly equiv. to Trailer Trash for you Yanks) to be quite insulting and classist. Its basically a new form of snobbery which allows middle class brits to slag of those less fortunate than them and get away with it. Britain arguably has a growing social underclass which has been a growing problem for the last 15 years. I've spent four years in south London and lived amongst so called 'inbred chavs' who are really
just people without a hope in hell of picking themselves up, due to poor motivation, bad education, bad environment, zero chances for a meaningful job/ life etc...

As for Kyle, its no different to Trisha 10 years ago really. Exploitative sensationalist muck. Don't belive everything you see on TV.

Real inbreds live in the country and never come out!

what the hell are you talking about, the people i know with the biggest problem concerning chavs are good honest hard working members of the working class, people who work damn hard for their money and hate to see it going to spongers.

I'll talk about 'what the hell' I like. ;)

I guess its' who you hear using the phrase. Generally I hear middle class students and London 20-something Clapham-ites throwing it around. They would use it in relation to someone's appearance, accent or dress. In those circumstances it can only appear as snobbery.

Its just a very preducial term, you can just fire it off without thinking about the implications of it.

I'm only on such a bloody moral high ground about this as I used to use it myself all the time.

let Me tell you something ... I`m not middle class , I work on the railways (customer service) I guess that makes me working class . i work over 45 hours a week .I slagged chavs off because I work hard for my money, and see mostly (not all though) these people scrounging on benefit etc drugs and crime seems to be an ally of them aswell . I learned a long time ago that = You can be anything you want to be (if your prepared to put the hard work in) i came from a bad area , bad upbringing (parents split also) do you see me taking drugs etc... ? You dont because i want to have a relatively happy life and a comfortable lifestyle . if these people had a bad education (i failed my gcse`s due to my family splitting 1 day before my exams . - just my luck lol ) then there are classes you can go to , free for people on benefits ..

you sound like everything i come to expect from the middle class .

I agree that some people don't want to work or want any help, yet expect help regardless, which is basically crap and annoying when we work like shit and our taxes pay for their habit. But to use any term such as 'chav' in a blanket way implies prejudice and judgement. If you were dismissed just on your looks and background and not given any chance, you would probably be pissed off as well.

Yes, I am middle class, my folks were middle class academics and I was born into that class. Not much I can do about it really. I've still worked hard to get my job and paid for most of my education. I also hear other folks in my 'social strata' who have had it easy, (public school education, trust fund, cars and houses on Daddy) using this phrase to describe anyone who earns less that £20k a year, or to instantly dismiss someone based upon their appearance.

what a suprise :)

Actually , When I was growing up, My Mother and Father acheived their degrees (Bsc) and became english teachers whilst working as a factory operative and a hgv driver , Another example of "you can do anthing/be anyone you want to be"

Personally when i started this post, I don`t look at people and go "chav !" I would like to think I judge people by their actions , Not by how they look .
and that is what i have done ; judged by how they acted , and responded in kind .

I know people who aren't stereotypical "chav's".

Yet they have taken fgull advantage of the benefits system. Neither of them were employed and they got full housinmg benefits. One had an extensive DVD collection. They got married in a church and ended up being granted a flat - still not in employ. Having visited their flat, they have an army of gerbils, a widescreen television, satellite and cable. They have gradually become employed at least partially.

Yet I am single, i work and I'm still stuck at home... and it annoys the heck out of me that I fund their decadence with my taxes... when they have not really contributed.

Point is benefits players come in all shapes and sizes we would be remiss to point the finger at one group.

That sucks anyway you look at it. I remember a bloke at university, a mature student who was there on a grant and had a large nice motorbike. He sat in seminars and lectures espousing the virtues of socialism and the power of the worker, only having been on benefit for the past 15 years claiming not to work as capitalism was 'abusing him'. It stunk.

I think everyone who can work should, but am hesitant to label anyone with the phrase 'chav' as it implies so much. It is a sterotype, although it is an easy one to apply. Interestingly, I thought the origin of the phrase was simply relating to 'people from Chatham'. Anyhow, this section on Wikipedia does sum up my views on it:

The widespread use of the chav stereotype has come under criticism; some argue that it amounts simply to snobbery and classism,[3] and that serious social problems such as Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, teenage pregnancy, delinquency and alcoholism in low-income areas should not be scoffed at. Critics of the term have argued that its proponents are “neo-snobs,”[12] and that its increasing popularity raises questions about how British society deals with social mobility and class.[13] In a February 2005 article in The Times, Julie Burchill argued that use of the word is a form of “social racism,” and that such “sneering” reveals more about the shortcomings of the “chav-haters” than those of their supposed victims.[14] The writer John Harris argued along similar lines in a 2007 article in The Guardian.[15]

Although that is the first and last time I ever agree with Julie Burchill.

As for Jeremy Kyle, the origin on this thread, that show really is sensationalist crap. Watch something better (although all daytime TV is drivel).

having read and thought about it a bit more , I suppose labeling people is a sort of social racism and could be considered dangerous/ harmful , But however i wish to point out that in the context of my post , I was originally reffering to the people that frequented the show .
and you are right kyle is crap , It just makes me laugh that these "nothing guys" cheating on these semi hot women , And i can`t help thinking ; How the hell did you get her to go out with you ?

That's fair enough, anyone who wants to air their private grief on rubbish TV must be fairly stupid anyhow. I remember watching similar stuff on Trisha years ago. It's sole purpose is to parade stupid people in front of you to get a reaction, so you will tune in again. Its like the TV equivilent of a Daily Mail article, building up hate for its own sake.

Heh. Yeah, as for the girls, Maybe they just got dolled up to be on TV. And some women love idiots.
