Lost (minor rants)

I can't believe I didn't recognize Fionnula Flanagan. I blame it on how old she's gotten

Where do you know her from? I had to look up the name to know who you were talking about. When I first saw her in Lost I said, "It's Data's mother!"

Agreed. Liked it a lot better than the "Others" episodes.

I am liking Desmond the more we get to know him and it was a better episode than some of the "Others". ;)

I knew her for all three of her Star Trek roles, as well as for having been in a movie with my grandmother, who was an actress (mostly a stage actress in the 40s, though she auditioned for Scarlett O'Hara .. but she did a few tiny roles on film in the 80s)

Very cool. I just know her by sight and not so much by name. I do remember a few other Trek roles but Data's mom is the one that sticks out in my memory. ;)

Interesting it says that it will cost the show's producers, when surely the onus lies with the airline. Isn't there some kind of insurance policy that covers this kind of thing, especially as it was a direct result of staff negligence?

I remember the Star Trek roles, but when I see Fionnula Flanagan my first thought is of Molly Culhane from How the West was Won. :D You're going to know how old I am now!... It was the late seventies when they still had a few westerns and it's the first show I remember seeing Bruce in...very young, tall, long hair, sooo cute! He does love to play a cowboy!

Anyway, I loved the scene in jewelry store! I thought she played that just right. I'm also more and more impressed with the Desmond character, although..."brother" is sometimes the only thing he says that I can understand the first time around! I back up my TiVo a lot when he's in a scene!

Just saw the Desmond episode... it was excellent. He's a top bloke and my heart goes out to him. In a different context I know what it's like to make choices like that... it smells, but it's necessary.

Galahad's personal Lost clique = Locke, Desmond, Jack, Sayid, Rose, Hurley, Kate & Juliette.

(Not including dead friends sadly missed.)

Got to seeing the last one now ... eaaargh.

There seems to be a strong trend with Jack episodes - where they suck.

The flashbacks just didn't make sense, too. I guess they were supposed to be mythical or something, but it mostly just came off as daft.

And I do hope the Chinese in Thailand was intentional .. and not just the producers not being aware of a difference between Chinese and Thai :p

So, not sure if this is a spoiler thread but a big old snore from me after watching. I want to know what "3 big mysteries" were revealed? I can only figure out one -- Jack's tattoos -- which I didn't think was all that big. I am losing interest in this show but I guess I will keep watching until it annoys me more to watch it than to not. It happened with Alias so I really hope it doesn't happen to this show too.

First, I really like Sawyer and his nicknames. You have to have a character that you like and don't like on the show. Londo was that for me on B5. Although, definently not of the same strain as Sawyer.

Kate is starting to really aggrivate me. I liked her at first. But, this tug of war with the two guys hearts is getting a bit much. I didn't mind the angst of it, but now it seems overboard. I think Jack needs to hook up with Juliet. No more BS from Kate. She needs to stick with Sawyer who can deal with it.

Anyway...

I'm still loving the show. And I love the puzzles. I personally don't like answers given to me real quick. I want to figure them out, decipher them. Just keep giving me more things to sit back and think about. Life doesn't give you answers usually that fast either. Why should a show about a mysterious island?

I am very very excited about the next two episodes. Mira will appear as Rousseau! Whoot! Two more episodes are expected after that. I just hope they don't have her find Alex too quickly.

Since Mira told me she feared that they would kill Rousseau if they had her find Alex...ehh...makes me a little 'nervous' about that 'reunion'.

Creating a lovable asshole is a fine art indeed - but I do think Lost failed here. Sawyer is just annoying - I neither love him, nor love to hate him, as I did with so many characters on B5 when they were being mean, obnoxious or evil (G'Kar, Londo, Bester, Morden, Kosh2).

I don't know if anyone here keeps up with recent British television .. but Gene Hunt from Life on Mars is a good example of the kind of character Lost was trying to create with Sawyer, but failed to. He's an absolute arse. Brutal. Disgusting. And you just can't help loving him. He even has the little nicknames for everyone, just like Sawyer .. just that his are actually funny.

The other two, I think are involving Cindy and the kids are alive and well, and involved with the "others", and possibly that the "Others" honestly believe they are giving the kids a better life. I have a feeling ABC killed the impact of answering Cindy and the kids, by showing them in the previews, I think it was supposed to be a more dramatic impact.

I happen to agree about Jack's tatoos, but, for whatever reason, they have been a real big deal of a mystery on the LOST boards. It is interesting though, that Bai Ling's hcaracter defined Jack as a leader, because he never was pre-island, and had to be convinced on the island to be so. (And she is supposedly set to be in two more episodes this season I believe, and tough to believe Jack will ahve two more flashbacks this season, so she may be in on this whole conspiracy or, she may end up in someone else's flashbacks)

I really, really, wanna see Rousseau's reunion with Alex, but, I really don't want her to die. Surprised Karl took off, I was expecting him to be a mole gathering recon on Fusie Beach, just waiting to have his programming activated

Casting Spoiler (And Ep title spoiler)

Mira Furlan returns as Danielle in two weeks in Ep 11 Enter 77 on March 7. The following episode doesn't have her listed on IMDB yet, but, it is called Par Avion, so I'm hoping it may involve her heavily, and possibly be a Rousseau flashback. (Well, scratch the Rousseau Flashback part, the latest podcast apparently said there will be no Rousseau flashback until S4, but, that should mean Rousseau won't die this year, Disi)

End of Casting Spoiler

Yeah, I'm glad to know they are putting a flashback off to another season.

Also, Mira will be appearing as Rousseau for the next three episodes! And another one after that in April. Finally, Rousseau back!

This is the second episode from a TV show this week (the first being this week's 24) that made me think: "What the hell did I just watch?"

The word...pointless comes to mind. Also silly.

Agreed. This week's episode was the kind of thing one could turn on and grade papers to; one didn't have to pay attention to it in order to know what was going on.

I've been watching this season mostly out of habit. And also because Im sure the one time I dont watch it, thats when something interesting/exciting will happen.

I just dont care that much about Sawyer/Kate to find them that interesting. I miss Loche and want more of him. Sure The Others are interesting and Im still unclear what they are doing, but I dont need every single episode devoted to them. I've been finding myself bored and changing channels during the show and coming back to it, something I never did before this season.

Typical Lost, really.

Two weeks ago, they gave us such a nice buildup .. they could have gotten so much suspense out of the story lines they were laying out, with Desmond and Charlie's curse. What do they do with it? Jack's tatoos and Hurley's estranged dad. Yipee.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting grumpy in my .. old age :) .. or something, but recently, any TV show I start watching just starts getting on my nerves within a season. Lost, BSG, 24, Doctor Who .. the only exception I can think of - a show that's still as awesome in its second season as it was in the beginning - is "Life on Mars" .. and that show not only has only 8 episodes a season, being a British show, but is in its last season - gah!

My sister is trying to get me to watch Heroes, as it's apparently awesome, but frankly, I no longer feel like starting to watch TV shows, if it seems like the general trend is for them to start sucking after a year.

I thought they did expand on Charlie being Marked for death, personally. They showed Tricia Tenaka being killed by the meteor, which was obviously related to Hurley's curse with the numbers, and he admitted to Charlie he believed Desmond was right, and that it was his (HUrley's) fault, because of the Numbers curse. Everyone has some issue to deal with on the island, and to conquer, this is Hurley's. Hurley was shown starting to conquer this curse with will power in the van. I don't believe with how obvious they have made it Charlie is going to die, that they are going to kill him, so Hurley has taken the first step to his redemption and will find a way to prevent Charlie from getting killed. I personally never put two and two together than Hurley would feel responsible for Charlie being marked by death, because of his curse, until they "Scooby Doo'ed" it in last night's ep

Plus we finally had some time for Hurley to mourn over Libby, and just an all around light, comical episode for the quiet before the storm. The next episode, dives very heavily into the mythology and sayid starts asking the questions we've always wanted asked.

Yeah, I do have some hope for upcoming episodes. Season 2 had its weaker spots, but it did actually end up going somewhere, in the end.

It just seems to be though that 20+ episodes a season is WAY too much for the show/for what the writers actually have planned.
