Something that Just Occured To Me...

Response I gave in:
The Sci-Fi Channel and Space Sci-Fi

Sci-fi has decided not to persue shows that deal with outer space.
...except for the "re-imagined" Battlestar Galactica, and the one about "intergalactic space vampires" that they picked instead of "Polaris."

Do the words I typed above, sound completely ludicrous and laughable, to you? I feel like I am living in "The Twilight Zone" every time I hear one of Sci-Fi's decisions. Maybe that's it! They're trying to make "The Twilight Zone" REAL for us!

If sci-fi is purposely trying to drive away its core audience, then they've certainly done a good job ... at least with my friends and I. About the only thing we watch on the channel at all is the Farscape re-runs that come on at 11:00 p.m. central (12:00 a.m. eastern)... and we aren't even big Farscape fans, but it's either that or Voyager re-runs.

The truly, truly sad thing is that I'm a 31-year-old man who has to go to the friggin' Cartoon Network to get my daily fix of sci-fi... nightly re-runs of Futurama, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop pretty much kicks the ass out of anything sci-fi airs.... they can show all the scare tactics and tremors they want... I don't care, I'll be over at Adult Swim.

I have a question- why do we still care what the Sci-Fi channel is doing? They're obviously not catering to us and no longer offer anything at interest to anyone here. Why not just ignore them the same way most us ignore Lifetime or the Golf channel?

I dumped those bastards when they gave Rangers the snub and I haven't watched their channel since!

I've more or less given up on Sci-Fi, but I still watch the channel from time to time. And I AM looking forward to the two movies with Bruce Campbell they'll be airing this year. And despite the fact that a lot of the movies they'll be airing are mostly just "some species of animal starts killing people blah blah blah", I'll be tuning in because I enjoy things like that. Then again... maybe I won't tune in. Whatever.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. You saved me several keystrokes. The LAST thing on my mind is what TV networks are thinking or doing. I just dont give a shit.

Because they still are going by the name "The Sci-Fi Channel." By that name, it ought to have new programming that I would be interested in, but other than SG-1 (in which I have a mild interest), it doesn't.

If Crusade was in production, I doubt I'd have started watching SG-1. However, with only Andromeda and Enterprise as competition, SG-1 looks pretty good.

I've taken to writing my own sci-fi to get my fix. :p And it just ain't as pretty.

Even if you're really good at it, that's just not as much fun as experiencing somebody else's story. Unless you're a split-personality, where one is completely unknown to the other, it's pretty hard to surprise yourself.

So, who cares what it's called? The American Broadcasting Company, buy its name, should have programming that appeals to an American. I'm an American, but I never watch the channel. ESPN is for sports, but I never watch it because I don't care about car racing and whatever the hell else they show. Watch the programs you want and that's it. The days of loyalty to a station are long gone.

It just seems like you're angering yourself over nothing.

What's wrong with lifetime? It's the only way to get my Golden Girls fix which to me is still very funny after all these years.

The only cool channels are the ones that teach you something - History channel and TLC.

And lets not forget MTV - Music Television - which is everything BUT music and has been for the last 10 fucking years! Its "real world" this, and "reality show" that. Sci-Fi channel is hardly unique in showing stuff in contrast to its name. In fact they arent even the worst offender.

So again, why care?
