Since comparison threads seem to be \"in\"...

I'm actually too lazy to write up a whole comparison like some of you guys have done. I figure I would just start a thread and see what happens. I found it VERY odd that Koshfan would even try to compare B5 to Firefly, since they two shows are so drastically different. The only thing that they have in common, is that they take place in the future in space.

I thought a more interesting comparison discussion would be Firefly and Farscape.

While Firefly has no aliens at all in it, and Farscape is ENTIRELY aliens, there are some general similarities between the shows.

First and foremost I thought the writing style was at least similar. Both shows were hip, clever, and loaded with pop culture dialogue and references.

What other elements do you guys think they may have had in common?

Pillowrock and myself made that point in the other thread that the Firefly is most like Farscape if you want to compare.

Both involve a ship of characters who want to stay away from the powers that be. In Farscape they are all being hunted (though later it becomes just the one character the powers care about) while in Firefly it starts off with one character that they're looking for and, has the show continued, it would have been the whole ship (by the last episode the bad guys knew River was on Serenity).

Both shows are about making your own way in the world and personal freedom (wereas B5 and DS9 are about universal freedom). Captain Reynolds and Aeryn Sun both used to serve some "greater purpose" but are now only concerned with survival.

Both have ships that don't fire weapons, very unusual for a space show.
They both also were designed for cargo.
Of course Moia is also alive- big difference.

Both shows have whores. On is a highly respected "classy" professional one, and one just keeps acting like one.

Farscape's resident warrior guy has codes and honor. Firefly's has none.
