Pirates of the Caribbean

For the love of god... what is it with the US mass-market appeal of crap?

First Spider-Man takes shit load of money (shit making shit)... and now Pirates of the Caribbean.

I finally thought I'd break and see what all the fuss was about today... and... well, I'm not sure.

Could it be the utterly formulaic story? The predictable plot? The bad lines? The boring, uninspired direction? The unimaginative soundtrack? The dodgy Depp acting? The utterly contrived "buddy" moments, so we can have a cutsey look at the "little people" as we laugh at their ho ho ho antics? I don't know, maybe all of them. But *especially* the story. It was just... gng... argh... horrible thinking about it.

All in all, very poor. And I'm not sure what is worse, that or Spider-Man. Pirates did have the lovely Knightley woman admittedly, and Spider-Man had Kirsten Dunst in the rain....

I, personaly, enjoyed the movie. It isn't in my top 10 or anything, but it was a nice way to spend 2 1/2 hours.

I SWEAR, if another comic book based movie comes out, someone will DIE.

Well, I liked it. Personally I thought that Depp's acting was quite good, and as for the little people? Ahem. R2D2 and C3PO, anyone? An old trick that got dusted off and pressed into service.

Although I admit that the current comic book-movie frenzy is a little much, Pirates was darn impressive for being based off a ride.

I also enjoyed Pirates quite a bit as well as Spider-Man. Different strokes ... ;)

True... but they were just utterly moronic. You should know better Lyta, and others. :D

So now I am a moron for liking those movies? :p

And yes, I should know better ... I don't trust your taste in movies. :D

But POTC is worth watching for the eye-candy factor alone ;) I happen to like looking at handsome young men with long, lean bodies and puppy dog eyes :D

Lyta, I said the film war moronic. You can interpret it as you wish.

Demon, no male talent in the movie. Keira Knightley was quite nice though.

Tell me who's hot then, in your eyes. Johnny Depp looked awful (he was pretty hot in The Astronaut's Wife, but that's about it for me). And Orlando... well, he looks a nancy boy. He's done the odd publicity shoot that looked quite nice, but he was a sight (not a good one) in Pirates.

Maybe you like the captain of the Black Pearl? Or the woman's father, that judge's wig turn you on?

Channe, I, too, read The Crying Of Lot 49, and liked it, but it is very light weight for Pynchon. I love V, but if someone is tortured by Lot 49, they better stay away from V! V might kill them, or drive them insane. It's about time I read his newest, the name I don't recall.

Some of us like nancy boys :p And Johnny Depp always looks hot, althouhg he wasn't as cute in this as he was in Chocolat ;)
