David Martel is the subject of first downloadable card

The B5LR area of the SCIFI.com website has posted what will be the first in a range of digital trading cards.

The first focuses on lead character David Martel, and includes a small bio and video.

You can download your card by clicking here and visiting the site.

Small is the operating word, there.

I haven't downloaded it because I don't know what use it is. Small, Channe says, well I wouldn't want it 8 x 11, but I would like to know if anyone has downloaded it.

I always seem to be diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

I've downloaded it, but I run Linux. You can actually run the postcard program itself under Wine and it works fine (goofy little control panel and sound effects) until you try to play the video at which point it just exits. Weirdly enough the teeny tiny AVI video plays fine by itself using Linux video players.

Not really worth the 3 meg download, in any case.

I like it, and even if you don't, at least they are being inovative and trying something new

ooooooh I so want to see the movie!!!, just that little vid made me want to see more lol

It's cute. But I wouldn't recommend it for people with dial-up (especially if they have to pay phone charges per minute) unless they're absolutely rabid fans.

Apart from that tiny video bit there wasn't really anything new, just a pretty little 3+ MB package.

That said, I'm definitely looking forward to the next ones, if only for the bits of video inside them.

I quite like it. It's novel. I just don't see the point of the trading, am I missing something? If anyone can download them why would you want to trade?

I'm guessing that perhaps they'll take the first one off the site after the next one comes out??

So if you have missed the chance to download one, you could "trade" one of yours with a friend... (or just ask the friend to mail it to you

)

Taking them off the site after a week doesn't make much sense to me but that's the only way I can think of for the "trading" to work.

I am as confused as Antony about the "trading" aspect of it. All that happens is that SciFi sends you an email with a link back to the trading card page for you to download. So, if they decide to remove the old cards, it is a bit pointless to "trade" them via their email message. (See the email I posted in another thread for more info)

I think it is just something that they decided to call it without thinking about what it actaully meant.

Well, perhaps they'll just take the link off their site? So that the only way for someone to download it would be getting the link from a friend?

Daft idea, I know, but I just can't think of anything else.

Edit note: never mind, I wasn't thinking at all... if all they do is to direct someone to that tradingcard page... perhaps they intend to take the link to the page itself down once the movie has aired?
