"Solitary" was pretty good. Getting it out of the way early on: it was great to see Mira Furlan.
This episode's personal story focused on Sayid, which was great to let us know about what kind of life he came from and who the person on his photograph was. I personally enjoyed the twist over the bullet wound. Danielle saw it earlier in the episode, and come the end of the episode, we learn he gave himself that wound to protect himself in helping Nadia escape.
Danielle served to help add to the big mystery of the island. Turns out she's a scientist that was part of a group. Kinda freaky that she killed all the people she was with because they became infected or possessed or whatever exactly happened. And she had a son.
The voices surrounding Sayid at the end add to the mystery monster thing that's gone on in episodes before. I for one hope that whatever the mystery actually is, that it is a good payoff. I enjoy a good mystery, but I do get worried that it won't be paidoff with enough umph to make it worth it. Perhaps knowing this show is from JJ Abrams and my having been rather disappointed with the last season of Alias has made me wonder about his bringing mysteries to fullfilling resolutions. But I'm still on board in enjoying the personal stories.
I loved that Hurley came up with the idea for them to have a couple of golf holes to play. It certainly would help keep them from going bonkers. But if the voices thing that plagued Danielle comes to hit our plane crash survivors, then we might end up with some of them going bonkers anyway from that.
I kinda felt sorry for Michael's son. I still find myself unsure of the connection between him and Locke. I wonder if it'll come back to drive a major wedge between Michael and his son and between Michael and Locke.
With the previews for the next episode in two weeks (is there not an episode next week because of Thanksgiving or something?), Claire might be having her baby (but then, might not).
So, yeah, I enjoyed this episode. I definitely hope we get a whole lot more of Danielle in the future (though I would take it to be not necessarily right away). I enjoyed her character and Mira did a very lovely job in the role so far.
