For the most part, I really enjoyed the episode. The openning speech by Archer at the huge assembly was rather typical for a speech of the nature it was, so that was rather bland, but the rest of the episode was nice.

I enjoyed T'Pol considerably in this episode. It was nice to see the crash of cultures conflict not be resolved in the ooo everything always turns out happy and perfect way that a lot of shows, including far many episodes of the various Star Trek shows in the past, resolve things. When the wedding started and then suddenly the episode was over, I wasn't anticipating that being the end of the episode.

The whole theme of guilt for having things happen out of one's control was prominent in the episode: with T'Pol's being on the Enterprise causing the Vulcans to not trust her mother to not be feeding Vulcan secrets to the Humans, with Archer's trying to deal with all the bad things that happened under his command in the past several years, and with Phlox being alien in a world recently hurt by other aliens. I think such a theme would be an easy one for writers to quickly script in a shoving it down the viewer's throats way, but I think the writer of this episode stayed sufficiently away from doing so.

It was nice to see that the parasites the Reptilians used on Hoshi last season were mentioned again in her check up with Phlox. Did I mention I enjoy continuity? ;)

And lastly, I enjoyed Tucker's willingness to not create more stress on T'Pol in regards to the whole marriage issue. It does show he really cares for her.

So, overall, I'd say it was quite a nice episode. I look forward to more nice episodes should this be a glimpse of the new direction of Enterprise.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

An almost entirly character building episode. Makes sense after a season and 2 episdoes packed with action. It was pretty good.

Thats all I have to say.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

It was pretty nice. I think it's a very good sign, that after the whole Xindi arc last year, and two episodes to tie up that and the Temporal Cold War, that the aftermath episode, didn't end everything cleanly. Going into a 3 episode, wham-bam arc, to have T'Pols wedding not be resolved, shows a desire to build the series, and keep continuity and layer the series. I agree with VL, I was almost shocked when the episode ended, as I fully expected it to be in a nice tight package with a ribbon around it. Archer did a really good job of explaining the question someone posed last week, about "How has Archer changed?"

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

Ok...still don't like how the Vulcans are behaving overall. The rich culture Nimoy helped to develop is all but gone. :(

They're still way too emotional. And can we pulllease get rid of the Vulcan/Romulan hair pieces for Christ's sake!

Other Trek incarnations have clearly illustrated that not all Vulcans and Romulans have the same frelling hair cut. God it's just horrid.

Oh, and Phlox's little face expansion/puffer fish moment was...well...I'm sorry, it was hilariously stupid. OMG, I couldn't believe it.

Sorry, I just didn't think the ep was all that. While it didn't wrap things up nicely and did seem to be a part of a continuing story of a universe, I still didn't think it delivered all that well.

Personally, I'm hoping the next 3 eps deliver some great and serious tie-ins and powerful writing.

So far, my impression is lackluster. It needs to raise the bar in a serious way.

This is where I'll make my decision on wether it's worth the effort to continue watching/supporting the show.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

I didn't think it a great ep, but an interesting one. I didn't find the portrayal of Vulcan that off the mark. I think the groundwork was laid for some intrigue. I think that Topol's mom has taken a shine to Trip, and may stir the pot somehow in the marriage ceremony. I have to wonder what motive Topol's fiance could have for still wanting her, and being willing to use his family's prestige to rehabilitate her and her mom. I'm sure he must have a logical, and devious motive.

I liked Phlox's pufferfish moment. It was so different from what Trek usually does. It was so alien. It's effect on the xenophobic earth people showed them for what they were... a bunch of frightened idiots.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

I missed the first two eps: by accident, not realising the season had started, but it didn't really bother me, as I was hating the Xindi thing.

Caught this one and it OK for what it was. Reminds me of the TNG ep right after Picard was taken by the Borg, where they had everybody spend time with their families to deal with the emotional trauma and do some character stuff.

The upcoming three-parter looks interesting. Klingons, Data... that's the way to get me back into it. It would be hard to screw that up.

Part of me is wondering if this will involve the event that McCoy mentioned in TOS when he defined the long-standing conflict between the Federation and the Klingons.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

Offhand, I recall a TOS episode where they were talking about the Klingons, and McCoy mentions that the Federation's first contact with the Klingons was over a century earlier, that it was a disaster, and sparked the conflict that lasted for the next 100+ years.

Of course, the Enterprise NX-01 crew has already met the Klingons on more than one occasion... BUT the Federation itself hasn't actually been formed yet, so there's really no policy or procedure for first-contact situations.

That, and my still-sneaking suspicion that there will be a Galactic Reset Button™ somewhere along the Star Trek: Enterprise timeline are what still have me a little confused, though...

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

Hmm...I thought that was in reference to the first contact with the Romulans.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

Well, I remember the Romulan thing quite well. The first TOS episode with Romulans was the "Hunt For Red October" style dog fight with a Romulan ship, who's captain was played by the guy that would later play Spock's father.

There was a crewman who's grandfather died in the first war between Romulans and the Federation, which created the Neutral Zone and took place about 80 years before the episode, IIRC.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

From a synopsis of "Balance of Terror", with Mark Lenard as the Romulan Commander:

The Enterprise investigates the lack of response from Earth outposts 2 and 3 (and subsequently 8) monitoring the Neutral Zone between planets Romulus and Remus and the rest of the galaxy. Using his authority as a ship's captain, Kirk is preparing to solemnize the marriage of crew members Angela Martine and Robert Tomlinson. However, the ceremony is interrupted when Earth outpost 4 reports itself under attack by an unknown space vessel. The Earth outposts have been constructed on asteroids, and were authorized by treaty following the atomic war with the Romulans more than a century earlier. No human or Romulan, however, has ever seen the another. Navigator Stiles is especially bitter because his ancestors were killed in the Earth-Romulan war.

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

The Shatner/Lenard combat in "Balance of Terror" reminds me of the Mitchum/Jurgens engagement in the WWII classic "Enemy Below."

Re: Enterprise: \"Home\" (Spoilers)

Good, as that was Roddenberry and company's source for that episode. :D
