Dushku says Tru Calling officially cancelled

I only found out that Tru Calling was in trouble a few days ago. I was surprised. The show grew its ratings in a very tough slot, and seemed to have an upward momentum.

I'm guessing there's more to this, like Fox didn't like the content of these six episodes or something.

A great bummer indeed. Tru Calling was one of my favorite whows from last year, and it really got good in the second half of the season. It was great to hear it had been renewed, and now this news really sucks, I've been following this story for the past few weeks, but, didn't realize anyone would be interested in it.

Matter of fact, the day they cut it back to only six episodes (Before the word cancelled was really being used), they were in the process of filming the sixth episode (a Christmas episode), which I guess they had to scrap, since it wasn't coming back in November as originally announced. And the real bummer is, it's my understanding the show they gave her time-slot to, is doing even worse than Tru's ratings were last year.

I never got into it. I watched the studio pilot... wasn't overly impressed. Waited until it aired, saw the ratings, and knew it wouldn't last.

The main surprise was that I didn't think they'd even show 13, but it somehow made a full season.

It was on FOX, and you were surprised about a cancellation? I was surprised it lasted this long, and quit watching it long ago because I knew it wouldn't last, and because I didn't care for it much.

I no longer will watch any new show on FOX. I'll watch a continuation of an existing show (e.g. That 70's Show), but if it's new, I don't even bother watching 1 episode if it's on FOX

Reasons:

Cancelled Favorites:
(Network, years, latest 1st run airdate)
----------------------------------------
Strange Luck (FOX, 1995-1996) February 1996
Brimstone (FOX, 1998-1999) February 1999
The Tick (FOX,, 2001-2002) January 2002
Firefly (FOX, 2002) December 2002
John Doe (FOX, 2002-2003) April 2003
Keen Eddie (FOX, 2003) July 2003
and
Wonderfalls (FOX, 2004) April 2004

...all cancelled well before their time.

Wonderfalls was the last straw. Screw FOX!

I only vaguely remember Strange Luck, and I didn't watch The Tick, Keen Eddie, or Wonderfalls. But, I'll have to agree that Brimstone, Firefly, and John Doe did not deserve to get cancelled when they did.

And, in fact, the bad track record with Fox cancellations was one reason I never watched Wonderfalls, and maybe even The Tick. I think subconsciously I knew they wouldn't last, so it would be a waste of time.

It's really weird, Fox is the network that will most likely accept a genre show or something original with lots of imagination, and yet it's also the network that has the worst time telling what it should cancel and what it shouldn't.

Think how good Dark Angel was in it's first season. They gave it a second season. When year 2 sucked, they didn't give it a chance to return to glory, they just ignored the success of season 1 and chucked it.

NBC seems to be doing better lately giving shows a chance, but that's also because they keep coming out with a bunch of crap and can't seem to do much better anyway. WB also seems to give shows a bit of a chance, but they also gear they shows to a particular demographic well enough, that their shows find an audience easily. Fox? I think they're just rolling dice over there, or maybe they're making their decisions based on the magic 8-ball.

The Tick and Keen Eddie are out on DVD, and Wonderfalls will be out in January or February, and all are worth getting, or at least renting. (Then, you'll want to buy 'em. ;) Trust me, you will.)

The Tick is extremely funny. Patrick Warburton was born for this role. :D

Keen Eddie and Wonderfalls are gems. Also, Sienna Miller and Caroline Dhavernas are extremely easy on the eyes, in addition to being fine actresses.

Regarding all of my FOX cancelled favorites, I'm glad I watched 'em. I enjoy what's there, but I've been burned by FOX one too many times. The only one I don't have recorded is Strange Luck. I put Brimstone on DVD-R (in XP). I bought The Tick and Firefly on DVD. I have John Doe and Keen Eddie on SP VHS, and Wonderfalls on a mix of SP VHS, DVD-R, and EP VHS, and I plan on buying Keen Eddie, Wonderfalls, and any of the others on DVD (if they ever come out on DVD, especially Brimstone.).

...and most likely to kill it almost immediately. FOX Network is THE BIG TEASE.

I find that 99% of my viewing is now CBS:

Two and a Half Men
CSI Miami
Navy N.C.I.S.
CSI NY
CSI
