Chapter 2 Visions
"I spent a week in my room, fasting and praying. I felt that it had been John and Delenn’s fault that Joshua had died. It was their fault for my unhappiness. It was their fault that I was wasting away to nothing…"
"But, how could you think such a thing?" Chantal asked in horror.
"Because I was young and naïve. I did not understand why the Rangers did what they did. Then one day, I finally realized something."
"What?"
"That it was not John and Delenn’s fault that Joshua died. He did it because he wanted to. He was never forced into it."
"Then, why were you blaming them for Joshua’s death?" Chantal asked, sounding confused.
"I don’t know. But, they never knew that I blamed them for his death until I apologized to them.
Latiya walked to Delenn’s office and rang the door chime.
"Come." Delenn’s voice rang through the intercom.
Latiya walked in as soon as the door opened. Delenn looked up and smiled as she stood up. They met in front of her desk and Delenn embraced Latiya.
"I’m sorry, Delenn." Latiya whispered.
"For what?" Delenn asked.
Latiya pulled out of Delenn’s embrace. "I blamed you and John for the death of Joshua. I realized that part of the duty for a member of the Anla’shok is dying. Therefore, it was no one’s fault."
"Delenn smiled. "You would make the perfect Anla’shok."
"Really? You really think so, Delenn?"
Delenn looked at Latiya. "Yes. But, you will not be able to join until you are sixteen."
"I will be sixteen next month…in Human terms."
The door hissed and John walked in with David walking next to him. David ran to Latiya and she scooped him up into her arms.
"Laya! Laya! Where were you, Laya?"
Latiya chuckled and hugged David. He started reaching for Delenn, so she gave him to Delenn.
"Momma! I saw Temple today!"
"You did? And, what did you think of it?"
"It’s pretty." David replied.
John and Delenn gave each other smiles.
So, everything was okay?" Chantal asked.
"Yes. That night, I had a vision. One that concerned John, Delenn, and David. I told them about it the next morning, but they did not believe me."
"Delenn didn’t believe you?" Chantal asked in surprise.
"Well, I do not know. At first, she seemed skeptical. But, when I kept having the same vision, she started believing me." Latiya explained.
"Okay, what happened next?"
"John started becoming annoyed because I was always mentioning my visions."
"Well, he says it’s quiet out there." John said over breakfast.
"Mr. Garibaldi is very thorough when he wants to be." Delenn commended.
Latiya just prodded her food with a fork. She knew that Delenn and John had turned their attention to her.
"What is wrong?" Delenn asked.
"I had that dream again."
Latiya heard the clatter of a fork hitting a plate. She slowly looked up at John. His eyes were flashing angrily. Latiya looked back down at her plate. She could feel something coming."
"Don’t you know that dreams can’t come true?"
"Yes, dreams can come true, John. What about your dreams of marrying me and having a child? They came true, did they not?" Delenn argued.
"Yes, but they were practical dreams. Hers are just plain nonsense. They’re simple nightmares."
"Did you know what they were?" Chantal asked.
"No. I considered them as bad dreams. Delenn took me somewhere to get it analyzed. After all, I kept having the same dream three nights in a row."
"Well, it appears that the young one is prone to visions."
"Visions? What kind of visions?" Delenn asked.
"Mostly bad ones. She told me that she had a vision about Joshua Thomason dying, but it was so obscure, that she never realized it," the Minbari explained.
"What about the one about us, Latiya?"
"I am sitting in David’s playroom, but David is nowhere to be found. Instead, John comes in and he starts yelling at me. David is gone. Then, John disappears. I begin to wander around the compound, but I am all alone. I hear several PPG shots and screams. Suddenly, several of the Anla’shok put me under arrest."
"In Valen’s name." Delenn gasped.
"But, it does not mean that they will come true. She says that she’s had visions that never had any significance in her life."
"What should we do?" Delenn asked.
"Take them seriously. You will never know if it will come true."
