Sci-Fi just posted this on there newswire

Lord of the Rings co-star Sean Astin and newcomer Joanne Kelly will join the cast of Showtime's SF series Jeremiah in its second season, Variety reported.

Thanks Capt for the info! I found a link to the article on Variety's web site and it gave a little more information. You have to sign up for a free trial memebership to read the article but it basically said that Joanne Kelly will be playing "series regular" Thesp, who will be "a potential love interest for Jeremiah (Luke Perry)".

Boy this does get interesting doesn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, no one wants to speculate what this means? Love interest? What about Michelle and Gabe? Also, her name is quite unusual. Does anyone know what it might mean?

Come on people, let's discuss! I know it isn't much but still ... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

OK, I got a question. What is a "series regular"? Main cast or re-occurring? Cuz a big chunk of "Jeremiah" is peopled by re-ocurring. How many eps do you have to be in to count as main? I'm pretty sure agents have something to do with it.

Thesp. The only thing that pops to mind is that it's short of thespian ... which doesn't quite make sense.

"Love interest for Jeremiah." He loses a partner, he gains a father and his world (such as it is) is thrown for the biggest tailspin since Mrs. Sheridan showed up AND he gets a love interest. With a weird name. In Valhalla Sector ?!? Jerry's gonna be one busy bullfrog.

I'm always very skeptical about characters that are "made" for being another character's love interest, because there's always that chance they could move into a state of artificiality.

"Thesp" could denote "thespian," yeah. Maybe she'll be an actress. Maybe Jeremiah will fall for her but not she for him - if she's in Valhalla, she could, again, be an operative.

Many of the Valhalla Sector people - Markus in particular - were in enough episodes that they could have had contracts to stick 'em in the front credits where Jeremiah and Kurdy were. Maybe that's what they mean by "series regular," mm? Will they put Thesp and Mr. Smith there?

What I really want to know is...

...where are Markus, Erin, and the others?

And is anyone back at Thunder Mountain? Did it get taken over or are they under attack??

... and if Markus and Erin are captured by VS, who's gonna take care of Meaghan? Not that she's terribly important or anything, except for that being the key to the cure for the Big Death thing which is barely worth mentioning, but Markus might be a little put out if something happened to her. Oh, hey, maybe there are some people in VS who know a little something about medical research. Maybe the TM gang might wanna take themselves home a little VS souvenir ("Somebody went to Valhalla Sector and all I got is this stupid virologist.").

On a totally unrelated matter, what is it exactly that Jeremiah's dad does?

Well, I personally hope that with all that new characters they don't forget about Markus, Erin, Lee etc. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Because I for once want to see some continuation to their situations. How bad, so that mean that now I won't see an Jeremiah-Erin situation. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif This two make a good couple in Season 1 for a short while but anyway it was good. Also would love to see what happen with Thunder Mountain without the rest of the group and specially to Meaghan. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I suppose we will have to wait and see. I don't know why but I don't think I would be dissapointed. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Jeremiah's father was one of the bigwigs on the project that produced the Big Death. Apparently, he's one of the only ones who knew the vaccine.

He's REALLY "up there."

Sooooooo, I can't be the only one thinking: Meaghan, Devon. Devon, Meaghan. Let's try to keep the dissecting at a minimum as it would upset certain people.

And just to stay on topic: if Kurdy gets a new partner, then it's only fair that Jeremiah get one, too.

What is a "series regular"?

That is a good question! Until the season starts, I can only guess really. Since Joanne Kelly is a relative unknown, I put her on the reoccuring cast members page. Mr. Smith went on the main cast page simply because he is a big name star and I assumed he would be in the same league as Perry and Warner. Eh, if I am wrong I can always change it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So, now that I have given the reasons why I placed the new characters where they are on the web site, here is what I think determines a "main cast" and "re-occuring" cast member. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif A "main cast" member is someone who is in every episode in the show -or- has enough star power to get put in the main show credits. "Re-occuring cast" member is someone who appears more than once in the show and plays a fairly significant role in the series.

Heh, hope you guys are buying my assumptions of how show biz works. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I googled "thesp" and only came up with "thespian" type references so I am glad I wasn't the only one who made that connection. I just wondered if there was maybe another meaning behind the name because we all know names have some sort of meaning when it comes to JMS. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am not too sure what to think of this announced "love interest" either. It could all change by the time we are introduced to her. After all, Sarah was announced as "Jeremiah's love interest" and that was dropped almost immediately along with her char.

I've cracked the main/re-occuring mystery:
main means "American actor"
re-occuring means "Canadian actor"
/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL!!

Seriously, though, we heard of two main cast members being added - one was Mr. Smith. The other is probably Thesp.

Great one Celle! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Much simpler than what I said. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Channe, we have only heard about two characters added to the series ... we do not know whether they are main or re-occuring or whatever. The news releases are very ambiguous about the details so we are left to speculate about what they could mean. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Unless you are reading a news story that I missed? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just did some more digging and Astin was also referred as a "series regular" in the article from MGM's Newsletter. It also said, "Like his co-stars Perry and Warner, Astin began work on Jeremiah on October 23 in Vancouver."

Now, "co-star" tells me that Astin will be a "main cast" member but does that mean Kelly will as well since she was referred to as a "series regular"? Bah, it will all be a mystery what this all means until after the season starts. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Either way, I hope Thesp and Kurdy hook up so we can get back to Jeremiah and Erin. Bah.

Hey, anybody have a picture of Joanne Kelly?

Ya, check out my updated cast member's page: /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
