Is Garibaldy responsible for the fall of Centaury Prime?

Hey how are ya? Haven't posted here in years...

I'm 3 episodes short of watching the entire Babylon 5 series for the third or fourth time, as it's been running on our action/scifi channel here in Israel.

I gotta say, even though when I first watched it I was 15, and now I'm just turning 25 - it hasn't lost its magic. However, some things now seem, how to say... Imperfect. Others even embarrassing to watch. Especially the fight scenes (human combat, not battleships) and a lot of the villain characters were as if drawn out of a comic book... I guess standards have changed in time.

So that's one thing for you to give your comment about.

Second thing is what I mentioned in the headline. Had Garibaldy not been drunk and been able to notify the White Stars that the Drazi and Narn forces are heading Centaury Prime, they might have been able to stop the attack. What would the Drakh have done then? Would that have saved Centaury Prime? Also, is Garibaldy aware of the big role he had in the fate of the Centauries?

Maybe, but probably not. The Drakh influence on Centauri Prime was already deeply rooted long before "The Fall of Centauri Prime."

With all of the fusion bombs and the keeper in place, it was only a matter of time before the Drakh managed something devastating for the planet, even had they been stopped in this particular episode.

Also, don't forget that Centauri Prime was not the only location that the Drakh plotted against. They tried to launch a Shadow Death Cloud against Earth but it was destroyed thanks to Earth Force in A Call To Arms. The Drakh had planned on using the Plague on Minbar, but quickly changed plans after the Death Cloud was destroyed and dumped it on Earth. There was also a second Death Cloud that was destroyed thanks to the actions of Vir and a few techno-mages, if I remember the novels correctly; I don't remember if the Drakh's plans for that Death Cloud were revealed though.

Spoiler for Spoilers for A Call to Arms and Legions of Fire:
The second (of many) Death Clouds, and the Death Cloud and other Shadow Weapons (e.g. the Plague) Construction Facility (Xhadam) was destroyed by Vir and the Technomage Kane, and they were aided by the Technomages Gwynne and Finian, and the after their escape from Xhadam, the ~jumpgate~ to Xhadam was destroyed by Galen, using what was probably a perfected variant of his Spell of Destruction.

The Drakh had planned on using a Death Cloud on Minbar as well, but since that plan was foiled by Vir and the Technomages, they had only one weapon left to use on Minbar, the plague. and they only had enough for one planet. So, when the Death Cloud the Drakh brought to Earth was destroyed, the Drakh used the plague on Earth, and then they had nothing left for Minbar. See, the destruction of the Death Cloud and other Shadow Weapons (e.g. the Plague) Construction Facility (Xhadam) was a big, BIG thing. Kinda makes you understand why the Drakh destroyed the Victory Class Destroyer Construction Facility on their way out at the end of "A Call to Arms."

I agree with the others. The Drakh were so rooted on Centauri Prime that even if there were no attack by the Narn and the Drazi they still would have found some way to make the Centauri the beaten people they wanted them to be.

Re: Is Garibaldy responsible for the fall of Centaury Prime?

I actually just started watching B5 again and at first I thought the same - that some of the stuff was a bit cheesy. As I got into the middle of Season 1 though the show re-gained its charm on me, and I'm still given the impression of great-ness. Sure it's not perfect, but what is? B5 is still the best sci-fi show in the history of television.

Re: Is Garibaldy responsible for the fall of Centaury Prime?

I did not think there were any indications Garibaldi was drunk during that part of the conflict.

IIRC, he found out about the Narn and Drazi ships had pulled out of combat zones and presumably were headed for Centauri Prime and immediately notified Sheridan.

It an earlier episode , when he was supposed to help keep the Centauri and allied forces separated by sending in the White Stars that he was drunk.

Doesn't matter. By that time, the avalanche had already started.

Right, when he possibly could have prevented hostilities from starting, he was passed out on the floor. However, were those Centauri ships piloted by Centauri personnel or Shadowtech pods? If the latter, they'd probably have attacked regardless.
