What happened to JMS news?

Hi there,

A long time without posting a thread. But once in a while I check what is going on.

I wonder what happened to the JMSNEWS where he used to post his comments and opinions. Since september 2010 he does not place any message.

Really anxious to know what will be the April announcement.

Take care all,

Cadu

Nothing's changed with JMSnews, it's just that JMS is posting to Facebook more these days than to the moderated newsgroup (which is down at the moment anyway). The JMSnews archives were able to gather JMS's posts to the newsgroup automatically but so far DougO (admin & site owner of JMSnews) hasn't been able to find a way to do the same with Facebook. He's working to see if there's a way for us to copy the posts from FB and add them manually to the archives.

ETA: if there's any major announcements, I'll still be sure to post them to the top of the archive page.

Anything posted on FaceBook becomes the property of FaceBook, which is why I don't post on it. So, FaceBook may well deliberately make it as difficult as possible to move those posts elsewhere. I'm surprised that JMS posts there. If he ever posts a story idea, it becomes FaceBook's property, at least so they claim, and could result in a legal fight.

^^ FB could claim it all they wanted but that wouldn't make it true. No more than it ever was for any online BBS or forum any time in the past. However, as it says right near the top of their TOS:

You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings. In addition:
1.For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos ("IP content"), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook ("IP License"). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.
2.When you delete IP content, it is deleted in a manner similar to emptying the recycle bin on a computer. However, you understand that removed content may persist in backup copies for a reasonable period of time (but will not be available to others).
3.When you use an application, your content and information is shared with the application. We require applications to respect your privacy, and your agreement with that application will control how the application can use, store, and transfer that content and information. (To learn more about Platform, read our Privacy Policy and Platform Page.)
4.When you publish content or information using the "everyone" setting, it means that you are allowing everyone, including people off of Facebook, to access and use that information, and to associate it with you (i.e., your name and profile picture).
5.We always appreciate your feedback or other suggestions about Facebook, but you understand that we may use them without any obligation to compensate you for them (just as you have no obligation to offer them).
Emphasis mine.

Well, it's been well over a year since I read it, so it might have been different then. Now, it is not as ironclad as I stated, but they can still use your content for free, and for profit, even if they can't keep you from using it elsewhere, for profit. Thanks for the details.
