ADV FILMS ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF HOME-VIDEO RIGHTS TO THREE SEASONS OF "GENE RODDENBERRY'S EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT"

WILDLY INVENTIVE TELEVISION SCIENCE-FICTION SERIES BEARS THE DISTINCTIVE TOUCH OF "STAR TREK" CREATOR

HOUSTON, March 14, 2003-ADV Films today announced the acquisition of the home-video rights to three seasons of the acclaimed Tribune Entertainment science-fiction television series "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict." Telling the story of a conflicted Resistance movement on an Earth where alien Taelon "Companions" are either working to improve the lot of man, or plotting to take control of the Earth for their own devices, "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict" is a gripping drama, combining intrigue with realistic studies of human weakness and foible, determination and heroism.

After a successful five-year run in syndication, "Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict" is currently being broadcast on the SCI FI channel. "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict" has proved an enduring fan favorite, with viewers following the series' elaborate plot twists through numerous fan sites, as well as through Tribune's extensive official site, http://www.efc.com.

ADV Films leadership is pleased at the acquisition and its potential for strong home-video sales. "Gene Roddenberry's association with a title is a proven driver for strong viewership and sales," said ADV Films President, Founder and CEO John Ledford. "We've seen this with 'Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda,' which has been a strong seller on DVD and VHS; the ongoing successful broadcast run of 'Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict' is a sign of more of the same to come."

ADV Films has not yet made public the release schedule for "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict," but the firm has indicated that it plans a 2003 DVD release, and individual volumes will likely include extensive extras, including such exclusive content as commentary tracks from stars and staff, outtakes and bloopers and much more.

UPDATE:
Clearing up a mystery
3/15/2003

With yesterday's Press Release from ADV stating that they had aquired the rights to three seasons of Earth: Final Conflict, we had a mystery on our hands. Back in August, Universal had announced that THEY were planning to release E:FC in 2003, along with seven other series. Since August, there has been no more word from Universal about this. And now, yesterday's confusing news, that ADV was releasing E:FC "instead".

Well, the mystery was quickly solved, thanks to a post on the official Andromeda message board from Marta at Tribune Marketing:

"Actually, ADV acquired the rights to Season 3, 4 and 5 of EFC. They will be released in one boxed set. Universal owns Seasons 1 & 2..."

That definately resolves the, uh, conflict (forgive the pun). As to whether we will get the five seasons released in order, Marta does not know. She had to admit in regard to Universal's two seasons that "I have no idea what they're doing with them". We will have to wait for Universal to step up to the plate and give us more information about their 2003 TV-to-DVD initiative (or whether there still IS one).

Thanks to Jeremiah Fenerty for pointing us in the right direction

NOTE: ADV doesn't usually release season sets of their products so the Season 3, 4 and 5 set of E:FC being release at once is unlikely

Re: Road to EFC DVD\'s...

Just Seasons 3-5? Thats kinda pointless? Why not Seasons 1 and 2?

Those were my 2 favorite seasons, lol.
