B5:TLT Actual DISCUSSION Thread

Re: no news here...

Well, as you say, it was all decided before any letters could be written.

But I'd tend to think, in a case like this, he was just trying to get on your nerves.

Re: no news here...

A meteor has been spotted on it's way to Canada

It's JMS' asteroid and is receiving final course corrections, and will then be on its way to Atlanta.

See attached pic.

Yeah, and I was trying to elicit valid, specific arguments from someone who was interested only in blasting Crusade with generalities based mostly upon ignorance. Well, that was before I knew what he was (is).

Moral of the story: "Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it."

Re: Live from the B5 Set

It all seems to be adding-up to another Drakh story.

Yeah, between the presence of Galen and a high ranking Centauri, that looks like a strong possibility. Of course, since the Drakh seem to be the main baddies in the B5 universe from Season 5 onwards, that's not too much of a surprise.

Re: Live from the B5 Set

1) There are two stories.

2) Depends on the timing. Sheridan doesn't learn that the Drakh are connected to the Centauri until 2278. Unless this new Centauri is third in line to the throne after Vir, the Sheridan segment is probably set earlier than that. We'll have to see.

I don't think we have enough information yet to even assign a "probable" to either of them being a Drakh story.

Joe

Re: Live from the B5 Set

the hand maybe? or a new race that followed the shadows?

If you're talking about the "certain dark forces" the Bruce Ramsey character may have gotten too close to - there's no reason JMS couldn't simply mean the Shadows themselves. He doesn't say the character is currently working for certain dark forces, just that he may have (once) gotten too close to them. He could just be indicating the influence this contact had on the guy's character without meaning to point to a storyline involving The Hand, the Thirdspace Aliens, the "AVftG" Aliens, the Shadows or the Red Men of Barssoom. :)

There must be many individuals, societies and institutions that were influenced in one way or another by the Shadows, and that influence didn't vanish the day the First Ones went beyond the Rim. One of the themes of B5 was always "the duration is going to be a lot longer than the war." The legacy of the Shadows is hardly limited to the Drakh. There are the remaining Technomages, EarthForce's black projects to reverse-engineer Shadow Technology, Shadow agents like Morden planeted in IPX, EarthGov, EarthForce and who knows how many alien worlds. There must be thousands of former Shadow agents cut off from material and psychological support, looking for a new home. Many of these would have been associated with the Clark administration and its allies on Earth, the corrupt Warrior and Religious caste groups on Minbar* and analogous groups elsewhere. (When the Soviet Union and the Eastern European communist regimes collapsed there was a similar glut of displace former secret police types, black ops scientists and other unsavory sorts. Many of them ended up hiring themselves out to rogue states and terrorist groups as specialists mercenaries. One of thoes unexpected consequences that can follow even success in an international struggle like the Cold War.)

Regards,

Joe

* There is reason to believe that the Shadows had some success in penetrating the Minbari, albeit at one or two removes so that the Vorlons wouldn't catch on. The Centauri poison that worked on Kosh was almost certainly a product of Shadow Technology. Deathwalker's work and the entire Dilgar War reek of early moves by Shadow agents. Her rescue from their defeat and eventual sanctuary with the Minbari also suggest the assistance of powerful friends working behind the scenes. I wouldn't be surprised if Shadow agents, Wormtongue like, had not contributed to the rift between the castes and especially the Warrior's doubts abou prophecy.

Re: Live from the B5 Set

Ah, but Joe, if it's Drakh, then they have an excellent reason to bring back Wayne Alexander!

Very interesting notion on the "Wormtongue" agents. That makes excellent sense; the collapse of the Minbari into civil war after a thousand years of peace always seemed a little fast to me. And the Shadow-Dilgar connection was definitely clear in retrospect. Maked you wonder what the Wind Swords did when they put two and two together, doesn't it?

Re: Live from the B5 Set

Isn't it more likely that the Prince Regent would be third in line to Londo? I have this vague notion that Vir was the last Centauri Emperor (which, I suppose wouldn't preclude the idea that he could be third to Vir, and would be very put out when the line of succession is ended). Do we have any evidence that Galen is around by the time of Vir's reign post 2278?

The sun rising in the east is a good reason for B5 bringing back Wayne Alexander. Not that I mind, of course.

Re: Live from the B5 Set

Vir's reign started in January 2277. All of the dates in Legions of Fire Books 2 and 3 are one year too high. The first date in Book 2 should be December 14, 2266. The Drakh test of the shadow death cloud at Daltron 7 took place around the third week of December 2266 (A Call to Arms).

No, we don't know if Galen is still around in 2277, but I hope he is.

Re: Live from the B5 Set

I hope it doesn't turn out that the Shadows are responsible for the Dilgar and/or the split in Minbari civilisation. It's just too unrealistic and convenient to lay every conflict at the foot of the devil... er, I mean the Shadows.

Re: Actual B5:TLT News

Hi Bee, welcome to the site.

So far we know the disk is gonna be 1 /12 of show time no commercials) and that will be split between two stories (One will be Sheridan on Minbar, the other Lochley on B5, probably 45 mintues each) and there will be 1/2 of special features. We also know Peter Woddward (Galen from Crusade) will appear somewhere in those stories. That's about it. There was a Garibaldi segment (when it was originally announced as 1/2 per character), but it got pushed back to the second disk, and the other two stories were expanded.

EDIT: Oops, didn't realize there was two more pages after your post, I see it's already been answered better.

Well, just to be a stickler about it, we don't actually *know* with absolute certainty that one story will focus on Sheridan on Minbar, and the other on Lochley on B5 (with the delayed Garibaldi story taking place on Mars). That's just the most likely explanation that would square with all the hints JMS has dropped, for reasons that I mentioned a couple pages back in this thread.

JMS had indicated that he wanted to have one of the disks include three stories, focusing on Sheridan, Lochley, and Garibaldi respectively, and so when he said that Sheridan, Lochley, Garibaldi, and Galen would be featured on Disk 1 (this was before the Garibaldi story got bumped), the most logical conclusion would have to be that Galen will be a supporting character in one of the other character's stories (rather than get his own story), but I don't think JMS has yet come out and said that explicitly. Likewise, when JMS suggested that we'd be seeing B5, Mars, and Minbar, it would certainly make sense for those to be the settings of the Lochley, Garibaldi, and Sheridan stories respectively, but I don't think JMS has come out and confirmed that.

It's definitely the going theory, but I don't want to confuse what's been confirmed with what hasn't.

Re: Actual B5:TLT News

The only stated contradiction to "Sheridan on Minbar" would be jms's comments about Bruce in a Starfury. Unless it's a flashback, it would seem that Sheridan is far from Minbar and his Presidential duties for at least part of the episode.

Okay, after my head stopped exploding and I put the brains back in, I figured out that what you meant to say was "1 1/2 hours of show time" rather than "1/12 of show time." I was trying to figure out what one-twelfth of something you were calling "show time" could mean!

and there will be 1/2 of special features.

Again, just to clarify, I'm assuming you meant to say "1/2 hour."

We don't want to seriously confuse people coming late to the party!

Oops, darned dyslexic fingers. Yes, 1 1/2 hours show time, 1/2 hour special features. Thanks for the translation.

Re: Actual B5:TLT News

BTW, if anyone was hoping for at least a short note from JMS now that production is finished, please remember that the universe hates B5 fans. :) No new messages have been posted to the moderated newsgroup for the past 36 hours or so. TPTB are looking into the problem. I know a new thread that I started was released from moderation twice since I posted it overnight morning, but neither it nor anything else has appeared on the group since about 9 PM Eastern time Tuesday night. So there could be a really cool message just chock full of news stuck in somewhere in cyberspace waiting for somebody to unclog the pipe. :)

Regards,

Joe
