Jeremiah in Babylon 5

Couldn't decide if I should post this in the Babylon 5 or Jeremiah forum, so I've put it here /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Last night I watched Grey 17 Is Missing - the one where Garibaldi finds the hidden level in Grey sector and meets a character called Jeremiah (played by Robert Englund) who says:

My name is Jeremiah, welcome to the end of the world!

Coincidence??? I don't think there are any coincidences where JMS is concerned. Was he already working on Jeremiah whilst writing B5 and slipped this one in???

Does anyone have any thoughts or comments on this?

Purely coincidence, actually.

Jeremiah was a Biblical prophet whose visions and prophecies tended to be quite apocalyptic. He also tended to be very loud and insistent, and he had a penchant to "rant" just a little, which is where our English word "jeremiad" comes from.

Plus "Jeremiah" was already the title and main character of the 1970s European comic book that JMS adapted for the television series. Since he had no idea he would be doing this back when he wrote "Grey 17", there is no way that one could have had anything to do with the other.

Regards,

Joe

I thought Robert Englund played Ezekiel, note that the religious movement seemed to use OT prophets names.

On unrelated matters, I apparently share a similar psychological profile as the prophet Nathan... we are both INFJ's!!!! Whatever that means???

Can't remember how Jeremiah in the OT bought it, it was either him or Isaiah that was awn in two... not sure which!

Ah, it all makes sense now /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I knew JMS used a lot of biblical reference, but I did not realise that was one of them.

I had heard it was based on a comic book, didn't realise it was that old.

Thank you all for your comments /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Who's Nathan???

Nathan was the old testament prophet who went up to King David and told him what a complete pillock he was for sending a man to die just so he could sleep with his wife.

Do you remember the psalm that Clinton quoted when he was apologising in front of all the religious leaders for the Lewinski thing? That psalm was the very same one that David wrote after being convicted by Nathan, now that's either uncannily appropriate or devious spin doctoring... you decide which!

Other INFJ's apparentlly include...

Mother Theresa
Martin Luther King Jr
Shirley Temple
Jimmy Carter
Oprah Winfrey
William Blake

This is the full description I received!

A 1970s comic in Europe? No wonder the comic book dealer who I was talking to didn't know "Jeremiah" was based off a comic book. Has anyone actually read or seen this comic book?

I've seen portions of the comic online. I have yet to find an actual copy. I talked to a comic book dealer who was also in the dark about Jeremiah. Herman Huppen has his own website but I think the majority of it is in French.

It has been recently translated into English (the original was in French) and published in a hardcover trade paperback format. You can read more about it on my web page:

http://abyss.hubbe.net/jeremiah/shop/jeremiah.html

I have read it and I really need to read it again as soon as I have some time to really absorb it fully. This month has been so crazy with all the holiday stuff going on. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
