Dude, sorry I didn't respond as quick as I normally would, but I've been away.

What can I say? I'm flattered that you associated suggestive nudity with the mighty GKarsEye. Your perception, memory, and judge of character are admirable.

So is that a real ad? If so, where is that broadcast?

But yeah, CC has a nice little body, which of course I've seen nekkid, God bless the internet.

It ran a couple of years ago in the U.K. when their version of the Sci-Fi Channel picked the show up. (There was a brief flurry of excitement on this side of the Pond when SFCUK - man, is that a great acronym or what?
smile.gif
- first put up a website for the show and included the ad. No one realized that the site had nothing to do the the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel and assumed that the station had picked up the show.)

When B5 was carried on terrestrial television it was frequently trimmed for violence. (Hard to believe, I know, but there were a few things that were considered "too intense" for the delicate nerves of the people who had endured the first day of the Somme and the Blitz.
smile.gif
) There was a shot of the knife with blood on it when Franklin was stabbed for instance (not the knife going into him, because that was never shot.) That kind of thing. Anyway, Sci-Fi was airing the show uncut, and hit on the idea of using Claudia to make the point.

It is nice, though, that despite all the mess regarding her non-appearance on season 5, she still thinks well enough of Babylon 5 to do ads for it.

As far as cutting shows, there's a bit of a trade-off between we Americans and Europe: you guys get to see more nudity, we get to see more violence. How silly, but I guess I'd rather have the violence.

I'm having some trouble downloading/viewing this. Would someone describe it, please?

Mondo, it is one of those "she looks naked but you can't quite see anything" scenes. It's actually very well done, and tasteful.

GkarsEye, just thought I'd mention that I personally disagree with you. (So what's new, right?
wink.gif
).

I think a little nudity doesn't do nearly the damage that our USA violence-orientation does. Especially to kids.

I'll vote for extra skin any day. I hate the ultra-violence.

I think that ad may have been shot before she left the series, like the TNT ads for the reruns in the U.S. were. Like I said, this dates back from the time that Sci-Fi UK picked up the show the first time, which I believe was years ago.

Still, I think that Claudia still does conventions as well, and most actors won't turn down a paycheck - especially if they're promoting what is still probably their best-known work.

So the ad could be from after her departure.

Joe

I must say that it was pretty good.

And we get to see everything. No cutting, no censoring, no beeping - everything the way it was filmed.

Although I sometimes wish we had at least some sort of ratings system in place - then again, I guess that the TV stations here are generally responsible enough not to show anything containing a lot of violence or nudity early in the evening.

(When The Sopranos first aired here, it was even advertised that it's the uncensorised version. I guess the US viewers aren't supposed to hear all the F-words - I doubt they could cut the sex and the violence from the US version... there wouldn't be anything left.

The Sopranos is a pay-cable show (HBO) over here. There only rules governing such networks is no hard-core porn, so there is no question of cutting anything at all in the series on this side of the Atlantic. (Indeed, the creators would not have made the series were it not on a premium cable service.) I guess they're advertising it as "uncut" over there because it is cut on broadcast and basic cable channels elsewhere.

Joe

Actually, I figured that much, Joe. I mean, with censoring, there really wouldn't be much left.

And I know that HBO has different rules. Obviously - once again, without those, they couldn't have made a show like that.

What I don't know is whether HBO is the only channel (network?) that shows The Sopranos in the US? Is it not aired at all on any other (broadcast or cable) channel?

No, I'm pretty sure the Sopranos isn't aired outside of HBO.

The best show they ever had was Spawn. Damn that kicked ass. Too bad they never continued it though. Oh well.

A lot of the VHS episodes of Babylon 5 were rated "12" (children's age). Early evening UK tv can only show "PG".

Claudia Christian is currently staring in the new science fiction musical "Area 51" in Scotland. She was interviewed by the magazine Dreamwatch, issue 88, Jan 2002. The songs have been released on CD. The article shows her in costume - a sexy, tight, very mini skirt.

The last paragraph says

With Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski recently completed a potential pilot for a new spinoff series. Legend of the Rangers, amid continuing suggestions of a feature film, Christian can still see the possibility of returning to her role as Susan Ivanova. "I gave her life. He birthed her, I gave her life, and I don't see why I wouldn't do that. I loved playing that character. It's one of my favourite characters of all time. She was beautifully written, so of course I would do that."

A_M_Swallow,

That is excellent to know. Thank you for posting that.

I tried to download the video clip, but for some reason it wouldn't show on my comp.

I have seen a pic of the print ad that I assume was also used during that time. It's on Jayne's "Ivanova is God" website, if I remember correctly. I always wondered where that picture came from.

Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out.
