Probably, the last update to B5Scrolls.

Hi,

It’s been around a year since the last update to B5scrolls, so this one is a bit overdue. Though like the title says, this is likely to be the last one – even though there’s still things to add to it.

As I gave up trying to keep track of who I told what and when. Your basically on your own to figure out what’s been added. Though here’s a few hints to some of the more recent stuff . . . . that I can remember. : )

Interview with Josh Prikryl – animator at Netter Digital who joined late in season 4.

Interview with Steve Burg – and if you don’t know who he is then shame on you. Apparently he only worked on the show for the first two seasons!

Interview with Mat Sprange has finally been added.

A few updates to interviews like Paul Bryant’s.

A few Additions to the B5 Concept Art Section.

And a few to the Miscellaneous Art Section.

The ‘Stuff’ section has now been stuffed out a bit, as this is likely the last update, so there’s a few downloads been added, credits, stuff like that. Read the ‘rant’ at your own risk.

I’m sure there’s more, some pages have been reformatted to make them a bit easier to read, for example, but that’s most of the main bits I can remember.

Hopefully there’s some things in there which are interesting enough, even to the old guard (amongst the fans).

I’m off to spam a few more forums now. ; )

Cheers
Tom

Thanks Tom for all the work you put into the B5 scrolls. I discovered the site just over a year ago and found it very interesting. I guess there is no need to update it anymore with nothing going on in the B5 universe. But it is nice to know it will still be around, whenever I need an interesting bit of behind the scenes information on B5.

thanks

I just finished reading your rant Tom over at B5 scrolls. And a long rant it was. And the John Copeland quote at the end was perfect. I am not a JMS hater or lover. I stand somewhere in the middle. But you are correct in that it seems so many fans forgot that Babylon 5 may have started with ones mans vison but it took a large group of talented people to make it come true. And often thier contributions to B5 are over looked simply because the correct information is not out there. To bad you shortened your rant by a couple pages. It was very interesting and informative.

thanks
dennis

I just finished reading your rant . . . . . . . . .

You read it!! I think I need to hide it better. ; )

I’m with you. I liked jms’s work. His level of determination, skill, imagination, flexibility and sheer energy is bordering on the inspirational.

The rant, is just a rant. It may look like it to some, but it’s not (intentionally at least) jms ‘bashing’. Bashing implies attack, and I don’t see any reason to attack him. But then, I don’t see him as a Great Maker. I see a hard working, driven, and half way decent writer and producer working in a town were image is everything and a little controversy is a marketable commodity. I’m bashing the (fan made) myth, not the man. There’s a difference - though that's just another of those personl opinions. ; )

As for stopping two screens early, even I thought I was disappearing up my own arse, and the last two pages didn’t help, so figured the John C quote was a good way to end it. It’s probably the last update because my enthusiasm for the thing isn’t what it was.

Anyway.
I’m fair chuffed I got hold of Steve Burg. Who’d have guessed the Starfuries great uncle (on it’s mothers side) was almost an extra on Terminator 2.

Cheers.

As it happens I started ‘doodling’ with the thing a couple of days back to see if I could make it a bit easier to read (a few folks mentioned it’s a bit dark). Fell back to the original format (the reason why it’s called B5 Scrolls). Jury is still out if it’s worth the effort, or if it is easier like this. Plus I’ll need to check with the likes of Steve if he’s OK with me mucking around with his artwork.

Not a lot of code behind the screen so just the six options on the top of the page work. They’re also rough as hell as there’s no point working on composition, colours, etc. right now. Personally I still prefer the plainer black background (good for images but a bit dodgy for screens heavy on the text).

Hey man, I recently (re)discovered your site, and I just wanted to compliment you on how much awesomeness in is there. I also liked the rant, even though I don't necessarily agree with everything. You might even be edging out some of the folks here on "level of detail" related to B5!

Possibly. I read over that ‘rant’ quite recently and thought what the hell was I thinking. Reading up on so much of B5 (on-line) did leave an impression, and I wanted to comment on how it felt for me as a newbie. The first example or two is not bad, as is the ‘expert’ on ripping off ships, and I think the situation surrounding FI leaving the show was worth a mention but there’s bits of it that really are a rant. An incoherent rambling rant. ; ) Might change it into an editorial type thing if I ever rework the site.

By the way, if anyone looks at the link I added above. Let me know if the that format is easier to read and is the inclusion of images worth attempting. (right now the composition etc. is pretty rough). I'm in two minds about it personally - maybe a bit too gimmicky looking, but others think it’s the way to go.

I checked out the your site Triple F and so far I like the changes... Keep it up. Its looking good.

Easier said than done without some help unfortunately. Actually that might be unfortunately worded seeing how you said “keep it up, it’s looking good”
; )

The main reason is images though, or the lack there of. One or three per page of interview is a rate I don’t think can be maintained as I don’t have access to things like the official mags or even the comics. There’s a real lack of B5 stuff like that on the net (other than screenshots of course and I don’t fancy filling the thing with them.)

Ironically, the site is probably now the largest (on-line) depository for B5 artwork, and all those used – in the artwork section (not interviews) - where given by the contributors.

When time allows, I’ll try putting one full interview together, maybe talk with some folks, an see how it goes (most at least cover a fair range of things – I’ll just try and be imaginative : )

I’m finished transferring stuff over to the new format, and won’t be spending anymore time looking for new content - so there's now no probably about this being the final update.. Yanked a pile of stuff out, namely the “Rant”. Added a few bits here and there.

Hopefully it will stay there for a little while this time, at least.

Republibot read you f’ing PM’s. ; )

Looks great! Glad you kept some of the humor.

TripleF,

Meant to say something before now, but thank you for the update ... I was one of those visually challenged people (literally) who struggled with your previous colourscheme, the new one is significantly better.

Just one slight kink in it ... the rollover explanations for the links (at the foot of the left column are formatted slightly further right each time as you go down the list, so the first few look fine but beyond that the formatting goes awry which means some of them are hard to decipher.

Not a biggie, and could be a browser specific issue (I am using Firefox), just thought it might be something you would want to be aware of.

Cheers,
GH

Oh hell. That must be a browser dependent thing. A while back I used to test on Opera, Firefox and Exploder - hadn't done a check in a while though. The menu thing works fine on the version of IE I'm using so never noticed. : (

Actually my bad – it isn’t a ‘your browser’ thing.

Just realised I was using an old version of internet explorer (forgot to update after reinstalling windows)– it lets you get away with some sloppy coding (or sloppier coding in my case). Fixed it, though I’ve just realised the animated ships (with the grid background) are now slightly out of alignment as well – f*ck!!

I know I said I wasn’t going to update date the thing anymore. But I found myself recovering from some minor knee surgery last week – and subsequently bored off my tits – so got hold of Ron and updated his interview . . . . . a bit. ; )

Anyway, just dropped this note on the off chance anyone would find it of interest.

BTW. The site the link points to is a bit slow right now – and I’ve tweaked things so the ‘flicker’ when changing screens shouldn’t be quite so jarring.

second (and last) post in a row.

Final update on this thing. Stuck the “Stuff” section back in, most of the links etc. are probably very well known by most here, but I tried sticking a few of the lesser known ones in like Greg Aronowitz’s blog. Same things for the downloads – most folks on here will be well aware of them. Updated a couple of the ships screens like this thing.

And that’s it. I’ve learned never to say never with this bloody thing, so lets just say that’s all I’ll be doing to it . . . . until the next time.
