Pirates of the Carribean 3 (SPOILERS - moderate, for now)

Egads!

How can a movie that has Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Bill Nighy, Jack Davenport, KEITH RICHARDS, and so many other talented individuals in it .. be SO CRAP?

At first, I thought I was just confused due to not having seen Pirates II recently, which was already kind of lame ("build-up" .. which always makes me anticipate .. well .. crap.) .. but ..

ZUH? Who was fighting whom? Why? Who cares?

How can you have so much budget, while apparently not having the means to hire a single script editor?

Oh well. It was still worth going to see it, I guess, as Johnny Depp is always awesome, and Captain Jack Sparrow is the coolest person in the history of everthing ever .. and also, Keith Richards was awesome as his old man, they should have cut the movie down to just their scenes. It had some good moments, and good lines I guess .. but .. crickey, there is a limit to how much lack of coherence I can take at one time!

And why must a movie like this be three hours long anyways?

.. so, am I being oversensitive, or was it really this lame? .. not that many here will know, yet, as for once we got it before the US did, by a day.

Re: Pirates of the Carribean 3 (SPOILERS - moderate, for now)

Oh, dear. Two out of the three movies I wanted to see this summer have been called "crap" by people I know who have seen them, now.

Too bad I don't drink anymore, I could go in plastered. That might help.

Looks like the rest of May and June are going to be long months. Might as well spend them wrapped up in doctor's appointments. They sound about as much fun.

Maybe I'll rent "Scrubs" from the beginning.

It generally tends to be a bad sign (i.e it doesn't inspire confidence) when the distributor withholds a film from critical review before it goes on general release. That is at least what has happened in the UK.

I think it was too obvious with this one to let critics get their fingers on it, yes. I few study mates of mine were at the cinema with me (though not beside me, as they booked independently from me) .. all of them, and my sister, and a friend of hers, that were there, all had the same reaction. "What the fuck was that??"

Recoil, I believe, fittingly described Pirates II as a great big pile of "Meh" .. this was a great big pile of "ZUH?"

I haven't been this confused about a movie since seeing Matrix II. Though, fortunately, unlike Matrix II, it had its redeming factors as well. Not in the writing department, though.

Re: Pirates of the Carribean 3 (SPOILERS - moderate, for now)

Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions really should have been compressed into a single film IMHO.

Even if criticism isn't justified... the producers must have been wary after Spider-Man 3 got a few shaky reviews. Everyone knows in this business they build you up before knocking you down. It is very gladiatorial. They sit there like emperors and presume to dictate the fates of the performers in quasi-divine fashion. On the rare occasion you get someone fighting in the sands who the crowd root for despite their flaws... but I'm getting into yet another film comparisoin here!!!!

Enjoyed the first, but had it spoiled by my Orlando obessed female flatmate of the time viewing it twice a week (seriously).

Missed #2 , and a good thing by all accounts.

#3 trailer looked great, to bad it actually is not. I'll stick with Die Hard 4 and Transformers for my popcorn summer movie fix, maybe with some FF2 as well.

Well it's possible some people will like it, so don't overestimate my opinion. I hear Matrix 2 has its followers too - which I found it quite similar to, just with better actors and with funny lines here and there.

must be a sad life, being a amateur film critic and general cinema snob.

I have yet to see a single good review of a movie on this site. If there has been a good review, it got buried and I cannot remember it.

People, please try to write a good review once in awhile or you just come off a pretentious fanboy/fangirl's which is quite annoying.

I have.

Casino Royale.
Batman Begins.
Serenity.
Pirates 1.
School of Rock.
Shrek 2.
The last two Harry Potter movies.

Which is the majority of movies I've gone to the cinema for recently.

You need to do something about your selective reading. If you're insulted because you actually liked this movie or something .. post your own reviews, instead of whining about me whining - which I'm not.

Well said Chilli. There have been loads of good reviews here. Grindhouse seemed to do quite well.

I even gave some serious lingustic loving to Episode 3!
