24 - Season 7
Anyone still watching?
The TV movie which aired last November was actually somewhat decent .. but the plot spoilers for season 7 don't make it sound like the show is jumping back behind the shark again.
In any case, double episode, this coming monday.

Re: 24 - Season 7
Sorry to be a grouch, but I'm so done with this show. Should have stopped after season 1, really. If I want impossibly nonsensical plot twists, I can watch Heroes again (which I won't). If I want pro-torture militant right-wing propaganda, I can watch Fox News (which I don't).

Re: 24 - Season 7
I've probably been giving this show more leeway for batshit insane right-winged paranoia due to the occasional batshit insane left-winged paranoia they've had in their plots.
I'm kind of cursed with generally being a completist - I have a hard time giving up on a show if I ever was into it, as I somehow keep thinking it might get better. Which is why I never even started Heroes - didn't want to get started on yet another show which stated off cool, and then started sucking, with me feeling complied to keep watching.
Will see if 24 still sucks bad enough to make me get over this stupid, stupid habit.

Re: 24 - Season 7
I'm pretty much with GKE. Its officially off of the DVR/Watch list. Last season I didn't even pay attention to it when I was watching it. It really has become its own joke after all this time.
I loved Season 1, 2, and 3. Season 4 started its decline into the dark abyss that it is in now.
I don't have a ton of time for TV, and there are other good shows I'd rather watch. Loved this show in its day, but it became a victim of its own success, always trying to be more intense, more extreme and have more high-level conspiracy plots.

Re: 24 - Season 7
Sorry if this counts as injecting politics where it doesn't belong, so mods if you wipe or move this, I'm cool. But even if I could deal with how silly the show has gotten dramatically (I suffer from the "completist" mentality Chilli describes), here's the reason this series now makes me ill:

everyone say it w/ me... JACK BAUER ISN'T REAL

Re: 24 - Season 7
Yeah, this has been bothering me too. Especially when seeing bits and pieces of the Republican primary debate, and more than half the guys brought up Jack Bauer when asked if they would ever authorize torture.
"If a clock was ticking, and Jack Bauer .."
Er, yeah. Show me one historical occurence of the so-called ticking clock scenario.
The whole premise of 24 is bullshit. Which didn't bother me when it was bullshit made to entertain people, but is somewhat worrying when it's bullshit people fail to recognize as fiction.

Re: 24 - Season 7
It also bothers me that it bothers me. I am always the first person to defend entertainment as just that. I love horror, and porn, and really gross, vicious humor. I regularly mock people for being offended by any entertainment, regardless of political or cultural background, be it the "pro-family" culture warriors or the obnoxious special interest bitching.
I guess the TV people finally managed to find a way to personally piss me off beyond just making stupid shows.

Re: 24 - Season 7
What amazes me is how they got Jeanine Garafolo to be on this show and even her character doesn't flat out refuse to help her boss torture a wounded suspect in the hospital. Apparently, she can compartmentalize her off-screen politics from her on-screen acting jobs.

Hey, liberal activist Hollywood types need to eat, too.
Frankly she always irritated me anyway.
