'24' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Logan's positive qualities are that he seems to genuinely care for and work towards peace. Yes, it's largely motivated by a desire to create a personal legacy, but that is the norm for any president. To his credit, he was appalled by Cummings' cartoonish plans, he's just too scared to act on his correct judgement.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

There had to be some reason that Keeler picked him as a running mate, but that reason escapes me.

Geographically "balancing" the ticket?

He managed to be the "first runner up" in the primaries, so trying to "re-unify" the party?

He's a good campaigner / fund raiser and Keeler never thought that he would die in office?

Logan should really learn to stop throwing around sentences like "I don't care what you do, just take care of it!" unless he actually means it.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Well I gotta say they really got me in this episode. If last year came off to me as if it were written by Karl Rove and Jack Abramoff to get off on war-on-terror porn, this one is written by Gore Vidal and Michael Moore to expose neo-con conspiracists. Blowing up nerve gas over a "central Asian" country to demonstrate the existence of "weapons of mass destruction" to justify invasion for oil and security- beautiful. Not only is the motivation a page out of Progress For A New American Century, but the plan itself is hilariously retarded.

But it's not the president's fault- he was provided bad intelligence.

I liked that twist as well. Although, apparently while that is what the President's right hand guy had planned....that is obviously not what is going to happen anymore. It looks like the terrorists got wise to things and now all bets are off. So while that was a cool plot/explaination, its not the direction things are going from now on.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

That was a pretty sweet twist. I think it was one of the more clever twists they've had on the show.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Hmm .. didn't we already have the same thing in Season 2 though?

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

In a TV interview U.S. Senator John McCain said he will appear in an upcoming episode of 24 . . . this week I think. He said don't blink because you'll miss him. Some believe that McCain will be the Republican nominee for President in the next election.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

I caught him in this episode. I had to rewind and watch it again because I thought it was him. Then I came here and saw your post, and that seemed to confirm it.

What is it with 24 and all these stupid family drama things? That one time it was Chase's baby, last season it was the head chick's daughter, and now it's Rudy's sister. The entire episode wasn't very eventful. Now it seems as though Kim will be returning sometime soon.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Ugh, Kim...

Where did the girl get the gun from? I'm assuming I missed something there.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

I didnt see where she got the gun from either. The episode was sort of formulaic this time around. As soon as the young girl was introduced you knew what was going to happen the guy helping the terrorists. The same for Linn. When he told his sister he was going to meet her in the parking lot you could guess from there what was about to go down. Sometimes I wonder if they throw family drama into 24 to just "fill" up time during an episode.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Yeah the junky sister was so lame- and exactly like last year's suicide crazy daughter... and both involving the head of CTU!

This show continues to be a parody of itself.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Not to mention how Walt Cummings managed to find the privacy to hang himself within an hour of being arrested .. riiight.

It was an utter embarrassment for the Austrian police when Franz Fuchs, a mentally deranged right-wing radical terrorist, managed to hang himself in his cell .. three fucking years after being arrested

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Oh look they were in a mall again. Their one lead got away from them again. Ho-hum.

This show is now relegated to background noise while I do chores- kinda like a Knicks game.

I hate to say it, but for this season I agree. I do the same thing. I just watched the last 2 weeks episodes finally on TIVO, and I was doing work in the background and mildly listening. It's just becoming too repetitive.

1) The junkie sister, as pointed out above, is just like the suicidal daughter last year.

2) How many times will a primary suspect somehow slip away?

3) These other background family dramas get real old real fast. Who gives a shit about the President's wife anymore? Why is she still even in the show now? At least at the start it was because of her connection to Palmer, but now its to...what? Cause drama for the Pres? Weak.

Lastly, I was most disappointed that Bauer got re-instated, and it was done within the first 6 hours of this season. I was really hoping for him to be more of the "I'm legally dead and on no one's payroll and I answer to no one!" Jack Bauer. That could have been some great storytelling. But it looks like they found a way to get him back in CTU and its business as usual...

Hopefully things turn around, but so far this season is pretty disappointing. My only hope is that I was this disappointed at the first half of Season 3, but the second half more than made up for it.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

I found this week .. less bad than the week before, not quite that many things that just made no sense. But it's just so .. repetative, yes. The bad guy getting away this time wouldn't have been as bad as it was if it hadn't been for Marwan last year .. as he was obviousley expecting company and watching from the outside .. just .. eh. It has definitely been more disappointing as I expected it to be till now, as I thought that the change of control would change way more than it did apparently. Not that I had ever watched a show by Manny Coto :D

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

When I complained about the show to a guy at work he reasonably asked me what I would do to make it better, and I really couldn't come up with anything. I mean, what's the alternative to the guy getting away, getting caught? End of show! Anything I could think of was really lame or repetitive. I think maybe the formula of the show is such that you simply can't do more than a couple of seasons of it.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

I've always felt that each season of the show is more a sequel than a continuation .. much like with movie series that you try to make too many movies out of in too little time, the formula just runs dry unless you have some vastly new ideas .. which I was hoping Manny Coto would bring. Oh well ...

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

I must say that I was somewhat impressed with tonight's double episodes. As always though, there's room for improvement.

I wonder what's going through the Russian president's mind, what with him walking off so suddenly from Logan. Does Novick actually think there's something going on between Mrs. Logan and Agent Pierce? Now the VP's in, and he's wanting to declare Marshal Law.

Kim's back. She reacted pretty much the way I expected her to when told her dad was still alive, and when the two of them finally met again.

I thought the idea of setting off nerve gas in CTU was pretty good, but once again CTU has to get infiltrated in order for that to happen. Now Edgar's gone. Seems they still have no problem killing off anyone at any time...except Jack, of course.

I sure hope Tony doesn't get it in his head to do something to Henderson.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Samwise's sister might be the ugliest woman I have ever seen in my life. Man did they get someone NASTY for that role. She makes crackwhores look bad.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

And so we get this year's silent clock tick.

When the VP first came on screen I muttered "heh, it's Laura Palmer's dad." And my sister, having never seen Twin Peaks, was like, "What, he's a black girl's dad? Which one is Laura?"

Tony Almeida has to turn into a bad guy- if not this season, than next. Man, how freakin' cool would that be? He can do the whole lost-everything-he-cares-about turn to madness routine. Than it would be Tony vs Jack.... f'in A. Of course, that is just too awesome for TV and so they won't do it.

I like how after Jack shoots Robocop's wife in the leg he calls CTU and is like "she got shot," you know, like it was an accident.

Kim... bluh... ech... with a psychiatrist?... come on... ugh... just... blech.

Re: \'24\' Season 5 (SPOILERS)

Some references to *possible* future events below. Only speculation, no known spoilers.

The VP is *way* too quick on the trigger with the whole bypass Congress and declare marshal law under another name bit. It may be too obvious and a red herring, but I'm getting a vibe that he's who Henderson is protecting ..... and didn't Walt say something about "others in the administration" or something like that?

CTU's security would be considered an embarassment at a fair number of urban high schools. On this show, people don't have the first clue about this stuff. (You can decide whether it's just the characters in charge of security or the show's writers that don't have a clue. Of course, it could be both.) This applies to a huge percentage of everything that we see happen in their building.

The writers went out of their way to lock Henderson in a room with Tony, with an impenetrable (for the time being) barrier between them and any and all moderating influances (such as they are; Jack, Bill, etc.) Of course Tony is going to decide to "interogate" Henderson himself.
