BOTH Star Trek and the movie Aliens were taken from the book Voyage of the Space Beagle by A.E. Van Vogt,

Whether "Forbidden Planet" was influenced by the book or not, I have no idea.

A major influence on Forbidden Planet was Shakespeare's "The Tempest". The film casts walter Pidgeon as Dr. Morpheus in the role of Prospero.
