Favorite B5 Soundtrack?

There's a ton of good ones out there, I don't think any episode's score matches up to Sleeping In Light, just my opinion. Though there were many good ones released (and unreleased..I thought And The Sky Full of Stars and the Long Twilight Struggle had some good music...neither was released)...In the movies, I liked Thirdspace and In The Beginning best, they both have rather unique feels to them. A Call To Arms wasn't that bad, neither was the original Gathering. but I liked Christopher Franke's work a lot better. Probably jsut because I'm so used to hearing his stuff during B5.

I love Franke's B5 music. I have 15 B5 CD's. 10 of them are episodic CD's, 3 are general B5 music CD's (Vol.1, Vol.2, and the Best of Babylon 5), and 2 are movie soundtracks (ItB and Thirdspace). IMHO Franke rocks! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

My personal favorite scorings are Z'ha'dum, Shadow Dancing and Sleeping in Light. Franke definantley has skill but I don't like the scoring in the first season all too much in general. There is just something too .. light .. about it /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have those 3. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I like them too! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Z'ha'dum wins hands down for me, but I confess I haven't heard much. I've only got one CD (although with a little extra cash I might go in search of others).

The only CDs I "own" are Babylon 5 and In The Beginning, I have about 1/3 of the episodics, Crusade, Thirdspace, River of Souls, and The Best of B5. But they are burned for mp3s so needless to say if I had the $$ I would definitely upgrade, but I'd rather get the DVD's. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But Ive heard sections from a great deal of them from Adam's site at musicofb5.com Too bad its gone, that was a good site, I'm sure it helped promote Chris's sales too, but as he didn't update it for over a year, there was no reason for him to continue paying for the site....but his remixes were great and I bet they are still on the net somewhere.

That Sunscreem song remix with the quotes from Z'ha'dum - oh, that was just great. That was just so good. I geek out to it periodically on the morning commute.

Who's to say it's geeky? If you like it, do it, the heck with what others would think! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've heard that Chris gave his old (and legendary) synthesizer Big Moog to his friend Hans Zimmer. Interesting as score reviewers always compare their styles.

Whee...Three years later I have them all, except And The Rock Cried Out. Can only import it from France or Germany for insane shipping prices! Amazon US and UK seem to have elimiinated the listing for that one.

In the Beginning is my favorite: the bagpipe(ish) sounds when Londo was talking about Centauri Prime... and look at what we have done to her.... which then goes into a montage about how the humans fought until the bitter end.

Sleeping in Light is probably the most effective, but No Surrender, No Retreat has a good score to it too. Othr bits I like are the music for the final battle in Endgame (which first accompanied Marcus and Neroon's fight in Grey 17 is Missing) and the 'doomsday' music when Sheridan flings himself off the cliff in Z'Ha'Dum. I also like a lot of the synths in the first season, which seemed to disappear in later episodes.

But Chris Franke's music was so great all the way through, I could keep listing fantastic pieces, but I'll stop now :)

The unreleased full soundtrack from the game Into The Fire, which was released 'unofically' (i.e. Bitorrent) but with C. Frankes' blessing was very very good. Large chunks of it turned up in Legend of the Rangers. I've no idea what happened to it now though...

Otherwise its the music to the sequence where the Shadow vessels destroy the Narn fleet, and the Centauri bomb the Narn homeworld in seasons 2ep19 ' Long Twighlight Struggle.' But yeah, I like it all. I've a lot stored on my I-river...

Bingo, nothing even comes close to this really exceeeeeeeepppttt....

Also in "In the Beginning", during the battle of the line there's some nice dramatic music with percussions timed with sounds of the explosions of the human ships, until eventually the sound effects fade out entirely and the percussions of the music actually replace the explosion sound effects.

The music from the end of Z'hadum when Sheridan is looking over the edge and the Whitestar is coming down with the nukes as it cuts back to Delenn seeing Sheridan's last message is pretty good as well.

Also, the music when Lenier betrays Sheridan is quite fitting.

But I agree with you, #1 is the scene you described.

I have no idea what CD's these tracks are on (though I'll assume the ITB ones are on the ITB soundtrack), if anyone could shed some light that would be great.

I didn't realize he and Zimmer were friends. Zimmer has always been my favorite.
