Crusade episode order

I'm trying to find what the real order of Crusade is supposed to be. I've looked at many webpages, but everyone seems to have a different order. I know that Crusade was aired in a certain order that was different to what JMS wanted, does anyone know what order JMS wanted it to be?

Re: Crusade episode order

There is a myth that there was an additional Crusade episode called 'War Zone' that TNT asked JMS to make as an introductory episode (instead of 'hitting the ground running'). So really it was more of a case of accommadating the new episodes rather than some evil network rearranging the real order. In general, the 'bellhop' uniform episodes were made first though I can't remember what order they were meant to be in.

That's probably not actually helped the matter.

Sorry.

"War Zone" is the logical first episode to follow "A Call to Arms" since it picks where "A Call to Arms" ends. The rest seem to more-or-less stand alone so any other ep could follow "War Zone."

True, but in the TNT order (I assume it to be the same as the order when it premiered on Sky One) there were certain discontinuities such as Gideon's relationship with Lochley and the reason how Max got assigned to the Excalibur. Also, imho 'War Zone' was completely unnecessary since didn't TNT finance 'A Call to Arms?' You can go pretty much from ACtA to the intended first episode of Crusade pretty easily.

There are definite continuity issues between various episodes. Some are very clear and objective, like whether the protective nano-virus is used before it is invented. Some are somewhat more subjective, like character and relationship growth seeming to work in sinusoidal pattern.

The thing is the first eps filmed (grey uniforms) were meant at the time to come at the beginning. However, after they changed to the black uniforms they knew that those would be aired first so they changed soe of the dialog etc. in them in order to fix some of the continuity problems that this would create. The net result is that you end up with some discontinuities whichever way you show them now. I seem to remember sitting down with a notepad and convincing myself (way back when) that there was no order that was completely devoid of continuity problems, even if you only stick to the objective ones. That may have included some that could possibly rationalized away, like Gideon saying "You once told me ...." before being told (the rationalization being that there was another similar conversation off screen before either of the two were shown on screen).

The first eps (the grey uniforms) were supposed to be the first 5 eps, with Racing the Night as the first ep........then after the new eps (the black uniforms) were filmed TNT said that they where going to aire the new ones first.

jms said that while he had full creative controll on the show, he was not allowed to decide what order episodes were aired (TNT can air them how they like and jms can do nothing about it).........But this meant that a new first ep had to be writen, one that didn't cover what Racing The Night did - so we ended up with what tnt wanted.......a plain, regular (and to be honest - boring) first episode........Otherwise, War Zone would never have existed

I heard that TNT asked for a new first episode that explicitly stated what was going on. I fail to believe that JMS would write something as clumsy as War Zone if he really had a choice on how he would handle the new first episode.

Now that I think about it, you're right. When I rerecorded (taking the commercials out as I did) I put War Zone right behind "A Call To Arms" but can't remember if I followed the airing order after that or swiched the eps around. I'll have to go back and see what I did.

The order the episodes are shown in on Sci-Fi is JMS's preferred airing order.

1. Racing The Night
2. The Needs Of Earth
3. The Memory Of War
4. The Long Road
5. Visitors From Down The Street
6. The Well Of Forever
7. Each Night I Dream Of Home
8. Patterns Of The Soul
9. The Path Of Sorrows
10. Ruling From The Tomb
11. The Rules Of The Game
12. War Zone
13. Appearances And Other Deceits

War Zone is not how JMS planned to start Crusade, and is a lousy introduction to the series. I just pretend it doesn't exist, and skip over it.

HTH.

Thanks alot for the info. Now, I have another question to ask. Is "War Zone" the only episode tampered with by TNT or are there others?
