Named Vorlons?

Elipsis

Regular
Throughout the entire cannonical or even semi-cannonical B5 universe (including books and whatever else has been officially released), are there any other named Vorlons besides Kosh and Ulkesh?

I know at least a few visually appear throughout the series, but I don't think any of them are named.

Considering that Kosh is the only one who's ever deigned to tell us his name (on-screen, at least), I think we won't get far with this.

We also need to understand how the vorlons perceived Booji.

Marcus' comments aside (I like to believe he based his quip on some vague and arcane knowledge he'd gleaned or had been previously established), was Booji the equivalent of God in the manifestation of a vorlon? The bucket on the head idea could have been a reference to an encounter suited appearance.

Or Marcus could have been making a joke and there isn't really an ancient Vorlon God called Booji.

Bottom line is, I don't think we have anything like enough info to take this very far. As far as I recall, we did only actually see two Vorlons on screen - didn't JMS confirm at some point that the two Vorlons with Dukhat in ItB were Kosk and Ulkesh, as were the two Vorlons with Valen at the handover of Babylon 4?

The rest of the time we saw plenty of Vorlon ships, but none of the actual inhabitants.

Yes, I believe JMS has confirmed that Kosh and Ulkesh are the Vorlons we saw with Valen and with Dukhat. But it's not even clear at what point Ulkesh owned up to being named Ulkesh. (Kosh may have had words with him.)

Ah but what about Booji????? Did jms let slip anything? Heh heh!

Sorry, Galahad:

Marcus was making that part up.

Also at what point did Kosh go for the change of wardrobe? Was he demoted in some way for actually being compassionate about the younger races?

He definitely wasn't demoted -- he clearly had major clout with the Vorlons, going by the events of "Interludes and Examinations." And going by some of JMS's comments, Kosh had enough influence to restrain Ulkesh (perhaps one of the reasons he was reluctant to lay down his life). So he's high in their hierarchies.

I rather suspect that he softened his appearance after contact with Valen, and that the other Vorlons didn't mind a little eccentricity on the part of one of their oldest and most respected.

I know he didn't in the show. But we learn his name in "To Dream in the City of Sorrows" and somebody told the Minbari who the other Vorlon was.

He didn't ... not in the show anyway.

I believe that the only confirmation came in posts like this one from JMS.

Well, if you want to get picky about it, the name "Ulkesh" was never uttered on the show at all. It may have been in JMS's notes and maybe even in the character lists and scene descriptions in scripts, but it never made it into the dialogue. But JMS has confirmed many times that Ulkesh and Kosh were the two Vorlons seen with Dukhat and with Valen on B4, and Ulkesh's status as the Vorlon ambassador to Minbar is established in the canon novel, To Dream in the City of Sorrows.

Here's the relevant part of one exchange JMS had with a fan on Compuserve:

Philip Hornsey <74053.2101@compuserve.com> asks:

> 4) What was the relationship between Kosh 1 and Kosh 2 (they
> always seem to be together, as on B4, in Dukhat's quarters,
> backing each other up on B5), and if they were close, it that why
> Kosh 2 was such a hardass in the aftermath of Kosh 1's death? Am I
> close?

[snip]

And yes, Kosh and Ulkesh were contemporaries, though Ulkesh was
the more military of the two, very isolationist, while Kosh was the
curious one, interested in the younger races, and more willing to
extend himself (with sometimes unfortunate results). Kosh always
worried what Ulkesh would do without his moderating presence...and
ultimately had to be the one to take him down to allow the younger
races to step forward.

And again...

Philip Hornsey <74053.2101@compuserve.com> asks:
> Were they friends?

No, I wouldn't call them friends. They had a certain respect
for one another, but Ulkesh always thought Kosh was soft, and Kosh
always worried that Ulkesh was dangerous. In their own ways, both were
right.

If memory serves we see a grand total of three Volrons in the series. Kosh, Ulkesh and whoever speaks for them at Corriana 6.

Regards,

Joe

In In the Beginning, Ulkesh seems to defer to Kosh, which makes me think that Kosh outranked him, but it may just have been that Kosh was older, and Ulkesh was deferring to his elder.
